The Casbah shall Rock Once Again!

MLS President Don Garber announced today that the San Jose Earthquakes will return to the league in 2008.

The new incarnation of the team will be owned by the same guys in charge or the Oakland Athletics.

I wonder if the Quakes will use again the black-electric blue color scheme they wore in the past or if they will rebrand the whole thing...

I hope they straight up pull a Cleveland Browns thing and bring back the previous logo set. They were undoubtedly the best looking team in the league when they bit the dust IMO.

Hopefully they market the team better in the Bay Area as a whole. I know that in San Francisco you'd have had no idea that the Clash/Earthquakes existed, marketing was that nil.

I like the idea of the team playing in different locations while the new pitch is built.

Now there's 7 teams in each league...just bring 1 more to each league and we're good. HELLO AGAIN MIAMI FUSION! I wish =(

Some options that come to mind would be, via worldstadiums.com:

- Stanford Stadium (distance from San Jose = 18 miles, best option, closest to San Jose)

- New Kezar Stadium (distance from San Jose = 49 miles, has smaller capacity, but a bit far from San Jose)

- Monster Park (distance from San Jose = 42 miles, not sure if a soccer pitch can fit there, but it would be an option for at least until the Niners begin their season)

Im shocked that the MLS couldn't make a go of it in all of Florida.

My thoughts exactly. It makes no sense to me!

Once again, it comes down to marketing which ownership did not do. Also, the stadium they played in (Lockhart in Ft. Lauderdale) is a dump and should have been torn down after the NASL days with the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers.
