thebigeh
Nice! Gold socks would look good with that kit.I like the crest. But how would it look if you put it inside of a (Pennsylvania) keystone? The date the club came into existance would be in that little space at the top of it.
Rampart
How far is Pittsburgh on getting a team? Seattle is in line for the next isnt it? I'd love to see some of those concepts.Pittsburgh may never get a team in MLS. Right now it's just the goal for the Riverhounds (USL-2) General Manager. Truthfully, I don't think the Riverhounds new ownership group has the cash flow needed to make it in MLS.From what I know of MLS expansion, San Jose is back next year and two more teams will be added for 2009. Boca Juniors (in the Argentine League) is making a push to put a team in Miami, much the same way that Chivas USA is in L.A. Hopefully, Seattle (or Vancouver or Portland) are given consideration for the next expansion, as I feel the teams that are in the USL now are well supported. I also know that Drew Carey may be leading the charge to get a team in Cleveland, but with Columbus just a short drive away, we'll see how that plays out. Coats of arms of William Pitt.3. Different crests (City of Pittsburgh seal, University of Pittsburgh, 99th Regional Readiness Command, Diocese of Pittsburgh)4. Revised logo with keystone. maz
original logo of yours is best. Doesnt deviate too much form actual one. Also, teh blue checkers, thougg on the seal, look out of place on the uniform. Perhaps if you make the checkers black and gold. Dont worry about uni/logo color conistency too much, plenty of teams use colors in logos that arent on the uni... alot are better off that way... as are these. A shock of blue on the crest will make the crest stand out and be noticed on the jersey. Besides, most soccer crests represent neighborhoods in Europe or local sports clubs whose badges were designed before sports marketing was even considered, so no big deal if there is an odd color or two that doesn't wind up in the uniforms. Blue checkerboards look out of place. A vertical sash of gold checkerboards would definitely work better than the blue and white.Maz, this is for you:- Pittsburgh is, according to the number of Croats living in it, the third largest Croat town, after Zagreb and Split [the 2 largest cities in Croatia]. Until the mid-1980s, Pittsburgh held second place [...which means there were more Croats in Pittsburgh than in Croatia's 2nd biggest city].- the Pittsburgh dialect, with its halting, staccato rhythm, is thought to be due to the large influx of Eastern Europeans to the area in the same way that the Dutch influenced the New York accent.- traditional Pittsburgh food includes Eastern European delicacies like pierogi, kielbasa, and haluski... all staples of Eastern European culture.- many of the Eastern Orthodox churches have their base in Pittsburgh or Western Pennsylvania; those that don't have a disproportionate amount of churches, seminaries and membership in the Pittsburgh area.I'm not saying there aren't a lot of Irish and Italians and Germans, but there is a disproportionate amount of Eastern Europeans in Pittsburgh, and their influence is far greater than you may realize. I've got enough friends from the Steel City, and I've been there enough to know. (My wife is also Slovak on her father's side from another Eastern European enclave [Passaic, NJ], and the culture's verrrrrrrrry similar.) "Start spreading the news... They're leavin' today... Won't get to be a part of it... In old New York..."In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17. Rampart
WONDERFUL logo....but if I might nit pick a little bit, I will say that the tip of the end of the crest and the top part of the banner look awkward. I'd move either the banner down or the crest up a couple of nudges to align the two a little bit....and lose the triangle. After fixing that one thing you need to step away from the crest.BTW, I think you're onto something with the stripes in the uniform. I'd reference the old classic Steeler Football jerseys from way back when. I think they had stripes too. I could be wrong.Nice job though on everything!I think I know what you mean. I extended the banner tips in this one.And the Steelers used vertical stripes in their first season in 1933. They brought those uniforms back for the NFL's 75th anniversary. And tough we have all that, we still have more of the Italians, Germans, and Irish when you combine them. But I get what youre sayin'.Respect to you, kind sir.About the concept:Jersey with the gold horizontal checkers is best so far, still looks off to me, just cant quite point it out, but its still the best yet. Bleujayone
I really like the logo/seal and the uniforms. I was thinking about the name of the team if "Pittsburgh" wasn't enough. Mostly I was thinking of a pseudo-Euro moniker trend the MLS has had of late and came up with the following.Steel City- Kind of like Manchester City but with more obvious ties to PittsburghThree Rivers- the Allegheny River from the northeast & Monongahela River from the southeast form the Ohio RiverKeystone- more the state's nickname than Pittsburgh's but I still think it could work Pitt-Penn- Not my favorite choice but it does say where they're from---------------------------If Pittsburgh + a nickname is the way to go however, I thought of the following nicknames:Hammers- as in West Ham but also because of the steel industryForgeIronmenDreadnoughts- just like the sound of this one, no other reason We all have our little faults. Mine's in California.
Rampart
As far as nicknames go, a lot of soccer teams without designated nicknames revert to thier colors (i.e. Liverpool - Reds, Chelsea - Blues, etc.). In this case, Pittsburgh could simply be known as "The Black & Gold". This would be yet another great connection with the people of Western PA.And while I do like the name Steel City FC, the steel industry isn't what it used to be. Besides, it almost seems like stepping on the Steelers feet.
