VandyDelphia Mike
After all the tinkering, I'd like to know exactly what was so bad about these uniforms?Absoultely nothing wrong with the uniform above, other than the fact that no where on it do you see "Syracuse" or an "S" or anything signifying which school is in the uniform. Granted, the photo is mid 1990s, and by now, if this design was kept, there probably would have been an "S" at the neckline, or a "Syracuse" or "Orange" wordmark right below the neckline.Point taken, though - Syracuse's annual football changes have them heading down a path to black and highlighter orange with gads of piping if they continue their association with Nike. I honestly don't think that is a big deal in assessing a uniform. As for the new helmets, I'm not a big fan. The S is ridiculously large and the blue-directly-on-orange combination looks as bad on the helmet as it does on the rest of Syracuse's recent creations. ROCHitman
You know, I really don't hate the updates. I think they've looked good every year they changed the uniform. I only wish they would stick with something for more than a season. It would be even better if they won a game. After all the tinkering, I'd like to know exactly what was so bad about these uniforms? Those were the best they ever wore.Of course, I'm biased because the team sported those unis when I was a student there. Waffles
I like it. If this is the last change they make to their uniforms for the next couple years (and it really should be at this point) it's a look I can certainly live with.I didn't like the McNabb-era jerseys while they had them, but I've grown to like them and I hope I can still find one if/when I go back for homecoming.Slightly on-topic, anyone else see this: New Football Stadium for Syracuse? Talk about fixing things that ain't broke (although the Dome could use a bit of fixing).

ManCalledAmp
Those were the best they ever wore.Of course, I'm biased because the team sported those unis when I was a student there.Well, that "bias" may be a little overrated. I mean, I'm currently a student at MTSU, and none of the looks they have sported while I was there rank among my faves. Their 2005 Reeboks with side piping would have been perfect if they hadn't screwed up the colors of the ginormous shoulder-logo, the 2006 Nikes were USC template-jobs, the facemasks AND helmets are silver, they love monochrome looks, and there's next to no silver in our recent looks. We don't look bad, but give me the OVC looks with the helmet logo on the sleeve stripes any day.So to sum up and end my unrelated MTSU love...I just criticised your angle...and strengthened your argument. Just because you're a homer doesn't mean you have to like that exact look at that time. But I agree. Aesthetically a good time to be an Orange(person). Go Gators. Go Blue Raiders. Go Commodores. Go USC Trojans.Preds & Avs. Braves, Rays, & Dodgers. Titans, Colts, Broncos, Cardinals. Grizzlies. 14ers, Jam. Team Spirit + Laziness = Yay. goaztecs
I like these helmets. They are simple and I like the huge S and this is probably one of the few times the gray mask looks good.
KCScout76
Could have been worse - they could have put the 'S' on the front of the helmet; kinda of like the Ole Wisconsin throwback that the Badgers wore last year. Still - my condolances to the "orange" fans - you are the proud, maybe not proud, supporters of the "fugly helmet". Sort of the anti-Oregon. Yeah, I think it's funny that Syracuse keeps changing things up every year, and every year they look good. There's no need to change, because their look is great, but they do. I love them. I loved last year's helmets. I loved them before that! I just wish they would pick one and stick with it for a few years! I feel like they're pushing their luck, and eventually they're going to come up with something hideous... and then THAT is the one they'll stick with. Gothamite
Now see, I think that's more collegiate. hecticbro
What's with them sticking a New York decal on the helmet? I go to the website, and they're trying to brand themselves as "New York's College Team". There's even a big picture of the Statue of Liberty on the top of the page. I think they're trying a little too hard to secure the NYC market here, especially since they're not even in that part of the state. Who's going to challenge them? Buffalo? Rutgers? The McNabb jerseys looked mismatched and ugly. Plus, they were identical to Illinois.

I just don't buy it.Rutgers is in the NYC suburbs - it has a legitimate claim on the market. Which is why the Big Ten is considering adding them to the conference. All the high schools I see are on the overly-piped, five-outline-number template.Great look for Syracuse. Simple, classy. For the record, I like both the Graves/McNabb jerseys AND the current orange on blue jerseys. I think the current set is refined and classy. I was never in love with the numbers on the helmet and I have my reservations about the Big S, but I think that overall, Syracuse as it is now is one of the top ten looking teams in the country. However, I also thought the old set was in the top ten as well. I still fall to see how things on that uniform were "mismatched and ugly." A bit more explanation is necessary. And F Illinois. I don't know who had the look first, but I'm assuming SU did. Illinois also ripped off the Giants for that set. And they're clearly horrendous now. 1 hour ago, ShutUpLutz! said: and the drunken doodoobags jumping off the tops of SUV's/vans/RV's onto tables because, oh yeah, they are drunken drug abusing doodoobags
