The best uniform of all time

The ultimate question for these boards. It?s quite simple. What is the best uniform of all time in your opinion? It can be a home uniform, an away uniform, an alternate uniform, a modern uniform, a classic uniform, It can be any sport you want, but you have to explain why you think it is the best uniform. There can only be one. I don?t want to see: Baseball - Reds 1976, Hockey- Canadians 1942, Football ? Packers 1969, Basketball ? Bulls 1992 etc.. Just pick one uniform.

I will start with the New York Yankees home uniform. I don?t have to pick an era because it is virtually the same today as it always has been. The reasons I pick the Yankees are:

1) It is simple, yet effective, elegant but at the same time a representation of the ordinary man

2) It is not defined by a specific era (i.e. wool, polyester pull-over?s)

3) It has been copied, but the duplicates never live up to the original

4) The sum it all up in one word, Class.

Agree or disagree with my opinion, I don?t care, but please give me your opinion.

This has been done millions of times before, and they tend to come up with the same result.

Has it been done a million times? I am not looking for results. I want to figure what logic some of you people use to determine what a good uniform is. I am just curious. Give me your opinion not an editorial on my post.

I think he wanted us to use some bit of logic to describe WHY we feel this way, not just telling everyone which uni you feel is best. Funny enough, I was just discussing this with a buddy of mine last night. Heres my choice, a bit biased, probably, but here goes

San Francisco Giants current home

This uni is simply perfect in my eyes for many reasons, best part is all my reasons tie in togather

1) The color - Cream is a highly underused as well as highly underrated color in baseball that I believe gives the Giants an instantly distinguisable look. It also fits in brilliantly with their classic themed park. Also, cream fits as a great contrast to orange and fits well with black, as it is easy to see and read. And finally, the gold ties in the cream base with the orange outline perfectly, as well as compliments the black rather than making it too busy or complicated for the eye to recognize.

2) The font - The jersey font is classic, unique, simple, and looks teriffic. It is a great look that ties in with the font of the ballcap, which is something that most teams in the league tend to overlook.

3) The cap - While at one point I would'nt have minded seeing the cap have a small addition of cream and gold outlined around the SF for the simple want of complete and total uniformity, I truely don't see how it would work correctly. The hat ties in with the uniform simply due to the font as it is, and is also a classic and simple logo that has been worn by many of the games greatest players.

4) The numbers - As stated before, the gold drop shadow ties everything in togather perfectly. And on top of that the thick block font makes the numbers look classic yet bold at the same time, something may teams seem to miss.

5) No names - While im usually a sucker for names, having no names makes the jersey look classy, and keeps it simple and uncluttered, yet not empty due to the size of the numbers.

In my mind, the Giants home unis are perfect. The perfect balance of modern flair with a tip to the past. Simple, yet at the same time with so many elements. It's almost as if these unis make make many elements almost a snoozer to pull off.

Now if they could do something about the disaster that is the road and BP unis that would look half as nice as the homes, this club would definately be the standard of uniform design for all to follow IMO.

Despite hating the team, I've always felt that the Oakland Raiders home uniform was one of the best. The colors and jersey are very intimidating and work very well with the Raider aura. I remember a few years back when the Pats were playing Oakland and was struck at how Oakland looked like such a bad ass fottball team.

Hate to say this because they're in Milwaukee's division but...St. Louis Cardinals. But with all-red caps only, please.

Classic insignia design with the birds on a bat, great history, neatly done. It even survived powder blues.

I'll have to go with: Brooklyn Dodgers home uniform

pMLB2-1331123dt.jpg

Not just for the sleek jersey, with the beautifully contrasted red numbers, but the entire set, from the classic "B" logo on the cap, to the royal blue socks, I think it's the best baseball look of all time.

(and I'm a Yankees fan)

This is a tough one NOT to disagree with, and I couldn't have stated the case more eloquently. The day the Giants signed Omar Vizquel, I finally had my legitimate excuse to buy one. For my money, it's the best jersey in my collection across baseball, football and hockey.

To call any one uniform the best of all time is a reach, but this one ranks. Also under consideration:

1. Baltimore/Indianapolis Colts. With the exception of the periods where they threw in some gray, when they had the horseshoes on the hips with player numbers inside, and the present when they took the stripes off the socks. Sheer elegance with a simple color scheme of royal blue and white. Iconic logo, UCLA stripes on the shoulders. Perfect all the way around.

2. Chicago Bears. For many of the same reasons as the Colts, AND they still have great sock stripes. Throw in the distinctive player numbers, the "GSH" permanently made a part of the uniform, and the slight assymetry of the "C", and it's a finalist. Slight demerit for caving to the folks in Merchandising and whipping up the orange alternate jersey.

3. Buffalo Sabres. The current 3rd sweater/original sweater has been my favorite since I started following hockey 25 years ago - and this from someone who really dislikes the Sabres. Great colors, great stripes, great socks. After the Black and Red Goat Head and the Buffaslug, maybe the team will come to its senses and restore their original unis as the full-time primaries.

4. St. Louis Cardinals. Chain-stitched birds on the bat. Stripes on the stirrups. Tradition and class epitomized. No piping, no "kewl colorz", just letting the uniform speak for itself. And when they added the navy road hats, a great uniform got better.

5. Atlanta Braves from 10 years ago. Another team I can't stand, and never could. But when they reverted to the navy/red uniforms, I have to admit they look sharp as hell. Again, it's the little things: the tomahawk, the triple outline piping, the piping on the beltloops, the stripes on the stirrups. The set they wore when they first brought the tomahawk back trumps the 2007 set because the stripes are gone from the stirrups, the player names aren't vertical arched any more, and the hideous red alternate/more hideous "A/tomahawk" alternate cap actually exist and get worn. (:puke:) But they've retained the core of the best modernized retro uniform look to date.

I'm leaving off a handful of teams, but this is the uppermost echelon IMO.

In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17.

NFL - Chicago Bears home navy/white. It's beautiful simplicity. Arabic numerals, burnt orange borders, the 3 lines on the sleeves. Marvelous.

NHL - As much as I don't like them probably the Detroit Red Wings. Again, simplicity = perfection.

MLB - Again, I must vote for the enemy - Yankees home whites. Pinstripes, great classic logo. It's baseball right there.

NBA - I was a huge fan of the Bulls red roads, but also of the old late 90's pacer white home with the pinstripes.

I told myself I wasn't going to respond to a thread like this, but here's why I hate this kind of debate...all of the uniforms ChicagoShawn85 just listed are my most despised, hated uniforms in sports.

Greeeeat...Another one of THESE threads again....

Well, I'm bored so I'll play along....

I think what makes a uniform stand up against all others as greatest or classic has just as much to do with the legacy of the team as the look of the uniform. Therefore:

NFL: Bears or Raiders

MLB: Yankees (UGH!) or Dodgers

NBA: Celtics

NHL: Redwings, Blackhawks or Rangers

...I now abstain from any more of these threads. Good bye B)

The Flyers, Sixers, Eagles, Phillies, Kixx, Wings, and Phantoms have the best uniforms in professional sports. The Rangers, Devils, NY Giants, Cowboys, and Mets have the worst.

Obviously, I'm just kidding, but hey - it's not any different than the logic a lot of people around here use, right? Which is exactly why these threads suck.

Props to those who actually defended their choices, as opposed to My Team Roxxzorzzzzz!!!!(wait for it...)111!!!one!!1!!.
