The best uniform of all time

I'm going to go a little outside the box here...

NFL: Tampa Bay Bucs. Coming from a color that people loved or loathed, they put a solid logo together and infused the color pewter that nobody really uses.

NHL: Blackhawks. Red/White/Black are always solid colors and they've stayed true to their roots with 3 jerseys which are identical.

NBA: Celtics. It's simple and still fresh...let's minus the black/green version though.

MLB: Pirates. They've successfully updated the Clemente era vests...but they need to get rid of those red softball vests.

That's just my .02 with a little bias... :P I'm a fan of 3/4 I picked.

I'd have to agree about the '60s Chargers. Great unis. But they're a close second to the '73-74 LA Rams (before they abandoned tackle twill numerals for the pressed on versions). Pretty much a perfect blend of color and theme. (As you can guess, I like blue and gold.) thumbsup.gif

Well clearly, it's every St. Louis team. Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

Some teams that always look great are:

LA Dodgers

Chicago Cubs

Current SF 49ers

Current SF Giants

Boston Celtics

Last year's Syracuse Football and Basketball

Current Indiana University Basketball

Current Toronto Maple Leafs

And, to piss people off, the Dallas Mav's alt. I love it more than nearly any other NBA jersey.

NFL: Cowboys. Ugh, I hate the Cowboys, but their uniforms are so crisp, so uncluttered, so traditional.

MLB: Yankees home uniforms. So much tradition, so beautiful a uniform. So hated a team, though, but we're only talking about uniforms.

NBA: Celtics. Like the Cowboys, very uncluttered and very traditional.

NHL: Tough call here, but I'm going with the Red Wings because they are the most uncluttered of the uniforms.

Overall: Yankees home. Probably the most identifiable uniforms on the planet. Believe me, I'm no Yankee fan, but there's something about those home pinstripes.

Besides being a good time of specific-detail discussion, this here thread is an example of people's inability to follow instructions. Re-reading the original-post in this thread is now somewhat comical. I suppose there are lots of people out there (and here too) for whom explaining themselves with words is just too difficult to do. Same with following directions.

There, I feel better now. B)

Now to the topic at hand:

My choice is the Argentina national football (soccer) team.

- good tie-in of jersey stripes and insignia to the nation's flag.

- history of success: 1978 & 1986 world cups

- slimming-effect of the vertical stripes was good for Diego Maradona :D

- relative consistency of design over the past 4 decades. Likely some tweaks, but the basic jersey design stays the same.

(Imagine my very tall signature pics being right here. Imagine them being taller than my actual reply. Imagine them being all re my home-town sports teams. Imagine blinking & flashing, to cause seizures. Imagine. It's easy if you try....)

I don?t want to see: Baseball - Reds 1976, Hockey- Canadians 1942, Football ? Packers 1969, Basketball ? Bulls 1992 etc.. Just pick one uniform.

As overdone and poorly researched as this thread is, a lot of you who actually bit on it can't follow instructions.

And your pick is?

I think he wanted us to use some bit of logic to describe WHY we feel this way, not just telling everyone which uni you feel is best. Funny enough, I was just discussing this with a buddy of mine last night. Heres my choice, a bit biased, probably, but here goes

San Francisco Giants current home

This uni is simply perfect in my eyes for many reasons, best part is all my reasons tie in togather

1) The color - Cream is a highly underused as well as highly underrated color in baseball that I believe gives the Giants an instantly distinguisable look. It also fits in brilliantly with their classic themed park. Also, cream fits as a great contrast to orange and fits well with black, as it is easy to see and read. And finally, the gold ties in the cream base with the orange outline perfectly, as well as compliments the black rather than making it too busy or complicated for the eye to recognize.

2) The font - The jersey font is classic, unique, simple, and looks teriffic. It is a great look that ties in with the font of the ballcap, which is something that most teams in the league tend to overlook.

3) The cap - While at one point I would'nt have minded seeing the cap have a small addition of cream and gold outlined around the SF for the simple want of complete and total uniformity, I truely don't see how it would work correctly. The hat ties in with the uniform simply due to the font as it is, and is also a classic and simple logo that has been worn by many of the games greatest players.

4) The numbers - As stated before, the gold drop shadow ties everything in togather perfectly. And on top of that the thick block font makes the numbers look classic yet bold at the same time, something may teams seem to miss.

5) No names - While im usually a sucker for names, having no names makes the jersey look classy, and keeps it simple and uncluttered, yet not empty due to the size of the numbers.

In my mind, the Giants home unis are perfect. The perfect balance of modern flair with a tip to the past. Simple, yet at the same time with so many elements. It's almost as if these unis make make many elements almost a snoozer to pull off.

Now if they could do something about the disaster that is the road and BP unis that would look half as nice as the homes, this club would definately be the standard of uniform design for all to follow IMO.

I'll second that.

I'll give you my answer to the ? of "If I could change one thing about my favorite teams uniforms, what would it be?"

For the Mets, I'd get rid of the black (EVERY trace of it) in favor of giving this a shot:

Comparison.jpg

I think without the black their pinstripes are the perfect uniform, but I've always wanted to see a version in cream...IDK why...

(And yes, in the picture [done in paint] it IS much "Creamier" just for comparisons sake...I wouldn't make it THAT creamy...)

AND ON EDIT:

Let me interject--I'm going to go with this (Home version):

Here goes....

MLB: I actually have a tie here. I really can't decide between these two.

P0091129.jpg

Both are just classy, simple, and essentially perfect. They've basically stood the test of time, with little change.

NFL: stewart_112201.jpg

Call me biased if you wish, but the Lions throwbacks are just gorgeous. I miss them on Thanksgiving.

NBA: p1563526reg.jpg

NHL: montreal_canadiens.jpg

Truth be told, I love Detroit's Thanksgiving alts as well. It's just so neausatingly simple, yet it works. Plus, Blue and Silver is a terriffic color combo.

You can call me biased if you want, but in terms of originality, I believe my Buccaneers have the best current set in the NFL.

Now keep in mind I said on terms of ORIGINALITY...and here's why I say that:

-Everyone knows red represents blood. Not to mention that red draws a connotation with "fierce". A lesser known aspect: red was often a color used to signify a fort's headquarters in battle.

-Pewter. Think "cannonballs". Now think "pirate ship". See how well those two come together? Now, add this aspect in: ever seen a thinderstorm? What color is the sky? GRAY. Now envision this: pirates coming in a storm. Kind of a fearsome sight, if you can envision it. Add to that the fact that the Tamps Bay region is the lightning-strike capital of the world (which means it sees more than its fair share of thunderstorms) and it all comes together.

-The way that flag just pops off that helmet...can't nann 'nother helmet in the league match it.

-The Bucs went from one of the most unique color schemes, however garish it may have been to most, to...one of the most unique color schemes used currently. (What other team in any sport used any kind of gray before the Bucs featured it prominently?

-Lost in all of that is this interesting little tidbit: it was the Buccaneers redesign in 1997 that touched off the NFL black shoe revolution. How many people can think of one team in the league that had black shoes prior to that? (Well...during the '90s, anyway)

BUT...in terms of overall, all-time greatness, I'll stack every chip I have on the table of the Los Angeles Rams. Why? Royal and yellow. Beautiful color scheme. The ram horns around the sleeves were genius. But what was REALLY genius? The former art student-turned Ram player (whose name slips my memory as I type this) who decided it'd be neat to paint ram horns on the teams' helmets, which, in effect, created the NFL's very first helmet logo...way back in like 1948 or something like that.

Those are my stories...and I'm sticking to them.

*Disclaimer: I am not an authoritative expert on stuff...I just do a lot of reading and research and keep in close connect with a bunch of people who are authoritative experts on stuff. 😁
