These next 5 weeks are his audition at the managerial gig. Not really a fair shot if you ask me...I mean, look at that squad...pathetic. And because the squad was so patheitc, the GM got the ax as well today. pThis was a total house clean...plain and simple. Now they need to look at cleaning that roster up.... Mac the Knife
It's sad because Phil Garner is a decent guy and a more than competent manager.Maybe if there are any brains there now thanks to the alleged front office shake-up that's to come, the Pirates will bring Scrap Iron back as their field boss for 2008. The_Admiral
It's sad because Phil Garner is a decent guy and a more than competent manager.Didn't he mess up a double switch or two in 2004? That's less than competent. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
See Red
Seems like a decent guy but he's far from a competent manager. When Biggio sees as much time in the leadoff spot when he's hitting .252 and getting on-base at .286 as he has then there's a problem with the guy who's making the lineups night in and night out. Mac the Knife
Okay guys, when you take a team and manage them to a World Series appearance - any team - you can call him incompetent. I didn't say he was the second coming of Casey Stengel - just competent. Especially compared to some if not most of his predecessors in Houston.
