swilson160
I seem to remember that Benito Santiago wore the number 09 at some point; I think it was for the Marlins. I looked for a pic of it but couldn't find it. Can anyone else confirm this, and does anyone know the story behind why he would have done that? Thanks in advance. The_Admiral
No pic readily available from me, but he did so because the straps on the catcher's equipment would obscure a centered 9, so he offset it with a 0. β« oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is goneΒ β«
officeglenn
I seem to remember that Santiago wore 9, but the back strap of the chest protector obscured it while he was catching. So he switched to 09 so there was one number on either side of the strap.Sorry, I don't remember any more than that. I think the 9 was a tribute to someone, which is why he wanted it so prominently displayed, but I'm not sure to whom.

iowahoo
I want to say he did it when he was with the Padres as well.
Sodboy13
Correct. He did wear 09 for his last few seasons with the Padres. Prince Senator
OK a little off topic but can someone please explain to me why the Marlins don`t go back to the teal instead of mostly black.....seeing that pic makes me remember why I liked their unis so much back then. Korkie
I agree with the above poster a million percent. Those unis feel like South Florida to me. The funny thing about teal is people either really like it or really hate it. I love it myself. I think black is the perfect accent color for it. Too bad my two teams are starting to make teal the accent for black, Jags and Marlins.
