A concept turned reality

As I mentioned in another thread I have been working with the Belfast Giants Ice hockey team for the last 8 month. Today they unveiled their new jerseys which I have had hand in designing. Too say I'm chuffed with them is a bit of a understatement :D

Defencemen Leigh Jamieson & Trevor Johnson model the new jerseys with Miss Northern Ireland.

Just thought I would share ^_^

Well, I'm not a huge fan of advertisement on uniforms to start off.

I like the jersey pattern & colours for sure. The numbers on the sleeves are much too low. They should be where the black advertisement patch is.

If the sleeve numbers were higher and you would lose the two ads on the top front right & left, I could live with it, even with the Coors logo. I actually think it blends in well.

Damn, talk about some busy-ass jerseys. But I still like em. But still, the best part of those jerseys has to be whats under that white one :D

Nice sweaters. At first glance, I like these better than a lot of the NHL's new designs.

I don't mind the advertising at all, though I think the fona cab patch should have been placed elsewhere so that the sleeve numbers were in their proper place. (the hem of the sweater, perhaps, along with the zoom logo to allow for the captains' 'C' or 'A') With pads under the sweater, those sleeve numbers look like they're going to be right at the bend of the elbow, and I suspect they're going to be hard to read, defeating their purpose.

The 'Coors' logo looks like it's integrated with the Giants' crest - are they officially the 'Coors Belfast Giants', or was it just the best way of cresting the sweater, combining the two for ease of manufacture?

Would you mind posting your design? I'd love to get a clearer look at the sleeve and collar details.

Congratulations, Clark.

Is "chuffed" good or bad?

I assumed it was bad, and was going to offer my condolences, but it sounds as though he's pretty pleased.

Nope, in Ireland being chuffed is a good thing. It basically means really happy.

The Giants where sponsored by Harp Larger from 2000 - 2003. In 2004 there was no title sponsor, then in 2005 Coors and a small Canadian lad called Fleury came to the club. Coors have remained until this day, the canadian lad is long gone tho.

While I agree with you about the positioning of the fonaCAB and Zoom sponsors there was little choice with these. Those patches have been in that position for a number of years and the specific companies have paid to have them on a prominent area of the shirt.

As for Coors, like I said above, Coors have been the title sponsor for the past three seasons. The only place that the Giants logo appears without Coors integrated into it is on youth shirts for obvious reasons.

I will post the design up later today.

I must agree, however one of our league rivals outdone us in this department...

Here is the design...

I love the color scheme of this jersey set. I will also say that if there was something that I'd like to remove its the primary logo instead of the Coors logo. That logo is horrible. I'm not a huge fan of sponsorship, but I'd rather look at the Coors font rather than a badly drawn He-Man logo.

The logo has been around since the teams inception in 2000 and has become a widely recognized brand. It is based on the legend of Finn MacCool and the formation of the Giants Causeway.

The story goes like so...

Finn a renown warrior was going about his daily duties on the north coast when one of his adversary, a Scottish giant called Benandonner started shouting and ridiculing Finn's fighting prowess. This angered Finn who lifted a lump of earth and pelted it to Scotland as a challenge to this giant. The Scottish giant retaliated with a rock back to Finn shouting that if he could get his hand on him, he would make sure that Finn would never fight again adding that unfortunately he could not swim the short distance across the Channel, so Finn would be spared that fate. Finn got enraged by this and tore large pieces from the cliffs, he worked for over a week pushing these into the ocean bed and made a sturdy causeway to Scotland, when he had finished he shouted 'Now you'll had no excuse' to come over and do your best. Fearing to lose his own reputation and pride the Scottish giant had no alternative but come over the causeway. Finn was tired, having not slept for the week he worked on the causeway and did not feel ready for fighting. He thought about how he could buy some time and recuperate to face the Scottish giant and came up with an ingenious plan. Quickly he made a large cot and disguised himself as a baby ...... and waited. The Scottish giant arrived at Finn's house shouting, 'Where is that coward MacCool', Finn's wife said the he was away but sure sit down and have a cup of tea, he'll not be long. the tea arrived with a cake in which Finn's wife had placed some stones. Benandonner took a bite and broke one of his teeth, and thought to himself, this Finn must be a tough boyo to eat cakes like this, not to be outdone, he finished off the cake and tea, breaking two more teeth in the process. He noticed the baby cot and the baby inside it and his eyes widened in fear, he thought to himself, my goodness if this is the size of the baby? What size is the Father? He reached his hand in to touch the sleeping baby, half out of curiosity and half as a sign of affection, Finn bit the tip of his finger off. Benandonner was shocked by this and thought to himself, if this is what the baby is capable of, what must the father be capable of and what could he not do! This thought terrified him, the fear got the better of him and took to his heels and ran like he had never ran before, back across the causeway to Scotland destroying it as he went.

Well.....that is one version of the story, there are many more

Congrats Clark! I guess there was nothing you could do with the Giants logo. because the big Coors logo the only thing I don't like about it.... but it doesn't matter when you have Miss Northern Ireland wearing it ^_^

I saw, I came, I left.
