pheer
Personally it was willful omission/traumatic amnesia.
TPE
What about Mark Teixiera when he played for the Texas Rangers? Fans always referred to him by Tex.

BroadwayBlueshirt
If I recall, there was a SportsCenter highlight a while back (just an ordinary highlight, but I remember it well). It was an Astros-Brewers game at Miller Park...something about Damian MILLER hitting a home run or something at MILLER Park, and Tyler HOUSTON getting a hit against the HOUSTON Astros....if only Tyler Houston played on the Astros. For some odd reason, I vividly remember that segment. The Red Sox were in town, and Bill Mueller also made a big play, leading to a photoshopped image of the outside of Miller Park with the sign changer to "MUELLER PARK". illwauk
You know what I just realized? We all been missing one of the best examples of a player's name matching the franchise name.(I'm really surprised no one from Cleveland caught this egregious omission--but then, considering the circumstances, maybe it's understandable why it's been all but forgotten...)\Best example I can think of.Courtney BROWN. C.leveland BROWNS.
