I just looked up "Rookie of the Year" on wikipedia, and there's a funny-because-someone-took-the-time-to-seriously-consider-these section entitled "Differences Between the Movie and Professiona Baseball." The best one:

"Wrigley Field contracts its concessions sales to independent vendors. The owner of the Cubs has no power to force his general manager to sell hot dogs."

can you imagine if Denver had been as outrageous and annoying over the Broncos and Avs as Boston has been over the Pats and Sox?

It's not possible to be as annoying as Red Sox fans. They "elected" a "president" of Red Sox Nation. How cute.

Red Sox fans were simply annoying and whiny before 2004. Since then they're insufferable.

Whereas, and I think I can speak for most of them, if the Indians manage to win the WS in 2007, they'll be grateful, somewhat boisterous initially but thereafter humble and reflective, appreciative of the achievement.

No saracsm there, either. It's a midwest thing.

First someone will have to revive us and then they'll have to convince us that it actually happened. But other than that, yeah you pretty much nailed it.

well if its anything the Indians did win the world series in Major League II.

How do you know? Was there an extended version, only available to you? Because the last game in that movie was against the White Sox in the ALCS......yeah. That's right.

(note: in order to let you know that I'm joking and not just being an :censored:, this is where a smiley face would go, if I used smiley faces.)

Wasn't that also what happened in Angels in the Outfield?

Speaking of that, how many deadbeat dads do you think there are out there trying to pull their foots outta their mouths because at the beginning of the season they told their kids they would spend time with them "When the Rockies win the pennant"? :P

Pretty much, except without the macabre foretelling of Tony Danza's death.

Tony shouldn't have even made it that far. He should've been hung for turning down a role in "The Warriors" :D

While on the subject of the Angels, and, well, baseball, apparently Bill Stoneman(Angels GM) has stepped down.

Oh, and congrats to the Rockies. I was pulling for them just to make playoffs a month ago. If only Eric Byrnes would've stayed in Colorado.

Red Sox fans were simply annoying and whiny before 2004. Since then they're insufferable. Here's a little perspective for Red Sox nation...

The Marlins have won more World Series titles since 1993 than The Red Sox have in 90 years.

The Diamondbacks have won just as many World Series since 1998 as The Red Sox have in 90 years.

The Toronto Blue Jays have won more World Series titles since 1976 than The Sox have in 90 years.

Get over yourselves.

And Sox fans don't brag about the last 90 years, you idiot. We'd sooner forget the more memorable moments over that time because they're memorable for bad reasons. You need to get over yourself... you get on Sox fans for cheering their team when yours is giving second inning curtain calls and booing every two strike call that isn't a strike whether it's within a foot of the strike zone or not. The fans that people think of when they think of Red Sox fans, though, are the ones that jumped on the bandwagon after 2004. And to put it into perspective... six championships is still good for third all-time.

Nice 'leading by example', Byrnes. Now we have to watch his comedy segments during the World Series.

What is that even supposed to mean. Talk about people over reacting from a few simple statements. He has already said he, in no way, made those statements to take anything away from or to, in any way, talk bad about the Rockies. He just felt his team had gotten the bad luck on many of the things that went down during the first few games and didn't believe they were being out-played as much as the score and series would lead people to believe. Is that really such a bad thing to say?

He basically said the Diamondbacks, despite trailing 2-0 in the series, had outplayed the Rockies and that the Rockies had gotten the breaks and a few calls. That sounds like someone making excuses and trying to take away from the other team for me. Tonight he said he was going to lead by example... 0-4 including the final out on a check swing... he deserves any criticism he gets.

Ok, so he believes they outplayed and gotten the shaft on a few calls...and? That is how he feels. He was asked about HIS team. Not about why the Rockies were winning. He was asked why HIS team was in the position they were in. He also went on to say that he meant to take nothing away from the Rockies. So tell me, if he intentionally was trying to bash the Rockies and take away from what they had done, why would he go on to say that the Rockies had done a great job so far and had the hits when it counted?

Oh, and he said he was going to lead by example. I am sure he wasn't trying to get hits or anything. I mean, by simply saying you are going to lead by example means you are going to go 4-4 with 2 grand slams. In reality I saw Byrnes hustling his butt off all night. In fact, much of the struggles he had tonight had to do with him being too eager to help out his team with a huge hit. I also saw Byrnes hustle his :cursing: and lay out his body into first trying to keep the inning alive. What a chump.

If you want to label Byrnes as the bad boogie man so you can feel ever better about your win because you were able to shut him up, then by all means do so. But I have seen and heard from Byrnes all year and he is NOTHING but a class act. You can make your judgment on the man by a comment that wasn't a negative comment towards your team to begin with and label him as a chump, but to do so would be an idiotic move in my book.

But regardless, congrats to the Rockies. Sorry we had that ugly scene here in Phoenix the other night and sorry one of our teammates tries to stick up for his team. Good luck in the World Series Rockies.

Allow me to say this... I've seen Eric Byrnes play a number of times and I've seen him make appearances on shows quite a bit (like the Best Damn Sports Show Period, etc.) and he certainly is a class act. He plays the game right, he sacrifices his body, and I'd love to see him playing Right Field for the Red Sox over Nancy Drew. He's been one of my favorite non-Sox/Rockies player in the League for a few years now...

... but he was out of line here, I think. You don't get a 2-0 lead by luck. By throwing in a "but the Rockies have played great", he was just leaving himself an out. By saying "We've outplayed them but they've gotten all the breaks" he's essentially saying "They haven't played good enough to be winning 2-0 without a little luck" and saying that they're lucky and if not for the bounces and the umpires they'd be losing. He's taking credit away from a team that deserved all the credit in the world rather than admitting that they were getting beat by the better team. And he deserves all the criticism he gets for doing it.

The irony in this whole thing, in my opinion, comes from the fact that most of the "die-hard" Rockies fans that were booing him for slighting their team weren't big enough Rockies fans last year to know that he played 15 games for the Rockies.

Points of order:

Florida has two titles since 1917, Boston has two.

Arizona has one title. Boston has two.

Toronto has two. Boston has two.

The Indians have won zero since 1950. Boston has won one. Boston has six overall, Cleveland two.

Pot, I think you know the kettle. <_<

Not at all - I think it would be more of a help. Colorado would get a tired opponent, especially if the ALCS goes six or seven games.

I made these predictions before the one game playoff. I'm not good at predicting the amount of games so I won't try.

Rockies over Phillies

D-Backs over Cubs

Indians over Yankees

Red Sox over Angels

Rockies over D-Backs

Indians over Red Sox

Indians over Rockies

So far so good

Fair enough. I don't think his comments were out of line at all and really don't think they had any malicious connotations behind them at all. But some people (including you) believe they were and he did. That is fine.

I just take exception when people talk about how he is classless and the "he deserves what ever he gets" comments. They really just seem petty and judgmental over one simple statement, that like I said, don't feel were that bad to begin with.

(On a completely unrelated side note)

Over the duration of the playoff coverage on TBS I have both increased my hatred for Dane Cook 100 fold and also went from wanting to possibly check out the new Frank Caliendo show to the point where if I see one of those damn commercials again I am going to go take a long walk off a short pier.

Hey there's no need to get personal. But since you called me an idiot for expressing an opinion you didn't like, allow me to put this as eloquently and succinctly as I can...

Go :censored: yourself.

6-0 Tribe. Enjoying the game?

Edit: by the way this whole thing started because I asked about bandwagon fans at Fenway. I agree with you there.

Wakefield can't go 5 innings and the Indians now lead 6-0. Although Wakefield had 4 strong innings this is why the Red Sox needed to bring Beckett back for this game. It looks like now that if the Red Sox want to win the series they will probably have to win in the full 7 games (definitely if they lose this game). If it goes 7 games they won't have Beckett who has been the only reliable starter for the Red Sox this series. That's bad managing.

BTW even though I'm not a Tribe fan I too am enjoying 7-0.

You can talk all you want about who the Red Sox should've started in this game but the performance of this lineup against Jake Westbrook and Paul Byrd is flat out embarassing. The lineup is a night and day difference on the road and at home. If this score holds up, the series isn't over because Beckett takes the mound tomorrow with a chance to send the series back to Boston and then hopefully the bats can come alive... but it'd be pretty damn close to being over. As for me, I'll continue to pray to god that JD Drew and Julio Lugo play their home games elsewhere next year.
