This was always an interesting look:

I wore one of those in my one season of organized football (1977).

I wound up with it after trying to be cool. I traded in a helmet with an old school double bar mask for one with today's basic RB/QB mask (which was new and cool then) when I saw it in the equipment room. The helmet turned out to be about a half size too small and gave me headaches. By the time I traded that one in, the only helmets left that fit me had this mask.
