NFL -- The Packers had defeated the Chiefs in Super Bowl I about 7 months earlier.

MLB -- My Orioles were still defending World Champions, but on their way to a disappointing finish (with the World Series ultimately won by the Cardinals).

NBA & NHL -- Don't know off hand and too lazy to look it up.

The year I was born...

Willis Reed rallies the Knicks in Game 7 as New York wins the NBA Championship beating the Lakers 4 games to 3.

Mike Garrett was the leading rusher with 39 yards, and Len Dawson passed for a paltry 142 yards and one touchdown as KC defeated Minnesota 23-7 in Super Bowl IV.

Brooks Robinson hit .429 and broke the record for total bases with seventeen (17) as the Baltimore Orioles win the World Series defeating the Cincinnati Reds 4 games to 1.

Bob Devaney coached the Nebraska Cornhuskers to an Orange Bowl win and the National Championship.

The Rams of Philadelphia Textile defeated Tennessee State to capture the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship.

When I was born(January 25, 1986):

- 49ers were Superbowl Champions, although only for a day. The Bears shuffled the day after I was born

- The Edmonton Oilers were reigning Stanley Cup champions

- The Kansas City Royals(!) were champions of the world until the Mets Mookie'd and Buckner'd their way to the crown in October

- The LA Lakers were reigning champions until the Celtics took the trophy in June

- The first federal Martin Luther King day occurred just 5 days prior

- Challenger exploded just 3 days after

- ALF debuted a mere 9 months later(well, 8 months and 27-ish days)

This is what I found on my year of birth:

Pitcher Warren Spahn, now 24, returns from the European war to resume a career with the Boston Braves that was interrupted after four games in 1942.

The Detroit Tigers win the World Series, defeating the Chicago Cubs 4 games to 3 with help from Hank Greenberg, who returned to the Tiger lineup in midsummer at age 34 and hit a home run in his first game after serving as an Army Air Corps volunteer in the China-Burma-India Theater.

Also:

Army backs Felix "Doc" Blanchard ("Mr. Inside") and Glenn Davis ("Mr. Outside"), both 20, lead their team to victory; Blanchard wins the Heisman Trophy, Davis will win it next year.

When Bobby Orr was asked why he always wore a cup

but not a helmet,he replied:"I can always get

someone else to do my thinking for me!"

Mine would be the same since I was born on Aug. 2, 1979. I do know that Yankees Catcher Thurmun Munson died on the same day and Iraq invaded Kuwait on my b-day in 1990.

In regards to wrestling history, Bob Backlund was in the midst of a near 6 year WWF Championship reign, and the WWF Intercontinental Title was established almost a month to the day later.
