The Imperfect
This is the first logo I have ever created in Photoshop. I took this picture of a cougar and decided to Vector it, in hopes of using as a logo in the near future. I'm am looking for any tips and tricks to help me out, and some good constructive criticism. Thanks!Original Photo
patsox
It looks really sad.
CS85
I'd find a head that's a bit less passive. This cougar's just like "hey...I'm just a cougar...just walkin' around...anybody wanna hang out?" Find a snarling one or something a bit more fierce.
chestnutz
Yeah make the head look up more or make his mouth extend farther up. Right now it looks like hes stoned.
mania
I've got to agree with the consensus. It's not that the vectoring is bad, it's not(btw, it's not really vectoring if it's done in Photoshop), but you need to pick a cougar that didn't look like it was admonished for peeing on the carpet. Jezus_Ghoti
That's a cougar who needs help. I am afraid he might try to kill himself.

The Imperfect
Haha, alright, I'll pick something more fierce looking next time!
kewp80
It also needs a neck, it just looks like a floating head. I would also simplify it more.

Spearhead
You'd be forlorn too if you were neckless.
josdin00
It doesn't look anything like a cougar logo. (and maybe that's a good thing)
ltravisjr
We could talk about the stylistic things that you really need to help your design, but you have to get the features accurate first. The key thing missing is the valley that runs from between the eyes to the top of the head. Make sure you get that in and also note that the top of the head is not rounded as you have it drawn. The valley separates it into two halves (almost like the top of a heart shape). Finally, note where the muzzle comes forward from the cheek. There is a shadow above his right side whiskers (left side from your viewpoint) that show the form of the muzzle. If you get those features in your drawing, it will look accurate and you can start working on getting better expressions and finally stronger tones, lineweights, etc.-LT
