Slickster
It doesn't make sense to me why the NFC/AFC logos will remain the same when the new NFL logo is rolled out next season. They seem to have the same arbitrary problems as the old NFL logo did.1) Why are there 3 stars on the NFC logo and 6 on the AFC's?2) Why the generic block serif fonts?3) Why does it say 'A' and not 'AFC' (or at least explain the acronym)?4) Why is one red and one blue?A redesign of the conference logos could provide more marketing potential. Imagine the AFC logo being a modernized AFL logo while the NFC logo is a retro-inspired NFL logo (like from the 1960s). Differentiating the conference logos can foster a better brand identity for the two conferences while recognizing each conference's respective past. walkerws
The AFC logo and NFC logo don't need explained for the most part because it's only popular in the states. The change with the new font is an idea but the effort to change them is apparently not there for the NFL.

FGWB
One of the main reasons for the Shield change was stitching all the stars onto products.
powersurge
I think the fact that the AFC and NFC logos are relatively simple to replicate in any size and medium makes it unnecessary to change them.
Gothamite
Not to mention they're pretty pointless logos, unlike the NL and AL logos. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog.
bigcoyotes
And for the colors? The AFL was mostly red, while the NFL was mostly blue. The AFL teams became the AFC when became one league in 1970. Plus they use the colors for the Pro Bowl uniforms
