Players in the "wrong" uniforms

Recommended Posts

Does this count? Because it always looked strange to me.

A Hall-of-Famer who played his entire career with one team, led them to back-to-back championships, and is the greatest player in team history? Yes, it absolutely counts.

The point isn't the team, obviously. The point is that his correct uniform is this one:

john_elway.jpg

Still doesn't make it his wrong uniform
But it does.

This argument just shows how badly this thread has degenerated from its original point.

When the majority of people think of John Elway, they picture him in the old uniforms. Ergo, those are the "right" uniforms. Now, follow along with me: another uniform, since it wouldn't be "right", would be "wrong". Sure, it may not have the "Holy crap!" factor of, say, Bobby Orr as a Black Hawk (was that before it after the name change?) because he had some hilight moments in them, but it's not his primary uniform. Comprondez-vous?

A person can have more than one right uniform, and that is the case here. He led that team to back to back championships and that is what a lot of people remember him in.

I don't follow the NFL too closely, so you know what, if many people actually do associate Elway with those uniforms, then I rescind my comment. That said, my point still stands about how the "right team/wrong uniform" scenario can still exist (which one poster seemed to refute).

It's true that the original topic of this thread used "the wrong uniform" to mean "the wrong team". Still, it is perfectly valid to broaden the concept to add "right team but wrong uniform", especially as the original theme had long ago run its course.

BgMack already mentioned Robin Yount wearing the wrong Brewers uniform. Others that qualify in this category are:

Fisk+w+White+Sox.jpg

Each of these guys is pictured with a team that feels right for him, but in a uniform from outside the eras with which each is typically associated with that team.

We could also add wrong facial hair, such as Derek Bell:

Yes...the same guy as this...

It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle. When the sun comes up, you'd better be running." - Unknown | 🌐 Check out my articles on jerseys at Bacon Sports 🔗

I'd say they'd both be his right uniform. The earlier set symbolizes his early career, his triumphs and failures and what not. Then, the Nike set symbolizes the pinnacle of his career, essentially. He finally wins two titles and retires on top.

Jason Giambi, Rubber Duck

He still plays?!?

exactly what i thought

Very highly regarded in the clubhouse for the Indians. And a fan favorite. Tito has kept him around because he's embraced a mentoring role.

And actually, he played great as a pinch hitter last year, & even saved the Indians playoff hopes vs. the White Sox last year.

He's rehabbing a broken rib right now.

IIRC, the Rockies were pushing him pretty hard to retire after the 2012 season and take over the team as the manager. He decided to keep playing, and they went with Walt Weiss. Tito calls him his "Manager In Waiting", and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him go straight into a managers role as soon as he retires.

Story B: Red Wings go undefeated and score 100 goals in every game. They also beat a team comprised of Godzilla, the ghost of Abraham Lincoln, 2 Power Rangers and Betty White. Oh, and they played in the middle of Iraq on a military base. In the sand. With no ice. Santa gave them special sand-skates that allowed them to play in shorts and t-shirts in 115 degree weather. Jesus, Zeus and Buddha watched from the sidelines and ate cotton candy.

I've been extremely curious about that.

I often tell people I could see him going straight into coaching.

“Coaching"meaning teaching players how to inject steroids? Oh wait, that's Barry Bonds' job.
