In the next few years, they'll probably move to Baltimore :D .

That, at least, I can guarantee won't happen....because Baltimore's arena is reportedly a "hole" and not fit to have any team at a close-to-major-league level.

But Ferraro's already probably scouting arenas in the Cleveland area in the 6,000-7,000 capacity range.

The City is voting to replace our "hole" of an arena soon, though. Let's go Baltimore Gladiators!

PS..."hole" is kind. It's the worst arena in America, I assure you.

By the sounds of that press release, you'd think they'd just gone through a major overhaul of name, logo and colors.

As it is everything is exactly the same, besides chopping that G in the main logo down to a C. That's an upgrade because now it references the location.

Strange that this identity/team name has survived three locales. That's not very AFL-like.

What an F###### joke!!!!! Are you kidding me? That's all they changed and now it's new? What? I hate that they used the same name as the Pittsburgh franchise that was around in the 80's. I hope they choke!!!! It's time the AFL gets a bit more original with the names.

You're counting Pittsburgh in that list, and that was a different franchise... but yeah, that's strange.

No, actually I'm counting New Jersey Gladiators, Las Vegas Gladiators and now Cleveland Gladiators. All the same logo and colors (aside from what I mentioned above). The NJ version switched from Red Dogs to Gladiators for at least a year before the move to Vegas. So it's three locales, one franchise, same name. But that's OK, it's tough to keep this AFL stuff straight.

i miss the new jersey red dogs

Ironically that name would have worked in Las Vegas too. ("Red Dog" is the name of a casino game; it's basically an adaptation of "acey-deucey".)

Cleveland, not so much.

They're not necessarily bad, just unremarkable, click-and-fill template work. Unfortunately, the three best aspects of their uniform from the Vegas days are gone: the unique number font (which actually departed in the switch to Russell last year,) the sword helmet stripe (also dropped last year,) and the secondary logo on the sleeves - the "G" in the round shield with crossed swords behind it.

Still, the most shocking thing to me is that Ferraro didn't just recycle last year's uniforms.

Meh.

Those will be overly dated in about a week.

Too bad, because for awhile there I was feeling pretty good about some of the designs coming out of the AFL. I know we haven't seen the official jerseys, but judging by what we see here....this would be a huge downgrade.

Well when they all had their own supplers it was greeat. I think since teh Nike and Russell years, the teams have been kinda standard. Not so much with Nike but they were still templates. Russell's been a joke. It'd be great if the Rush and Soul at least got their numbers back. Their uniforms aren't much different but the number font is horrid. Really, San Jose and Columbus are the only two who haven't suffered any real let downs uniform wise. The Sunburst sleeves were nice though.

Have we finally run out of useful team nicknames?

Im a died-in-the-wool Cleveland fan. With that, comes a despising of all things Pittsburgh. The first thing I thought of when they announced the final name (they considered others) was going to be "Gladiators" was that Pittsburgh used to have an AFL team called the same thing.

Ill get over it since I love the AFL and have been calling for Cleveland to get a team for years (once had an email exchange with Cavs owner Dan Gilbert on the subject), but that Pittspuke thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth....

I'm not a huge fan of anything Pittsburgh either, but I definately think the old Pittsburgh Gladiators helmet looked a billion times better than everything else in the New Jersey/Las Vegas/Cleveland Gladiator era.

I disagree only because it looked like clip art to me. It's a nice design but had no real pop to it. Of course back then not alot of logos were as unique as what teams use now.
