Well, Falcons fans, look on the bright side....you guys aren't as bad as the Dolphins. That's a plus, I suppose.

Engine, Engine, Number Nine, on the New York transit line,

If my train goes off the track, pick it up! Pick it up! Pick it up!

Back on the scene, crispy and clean,

You can try, but then why, 'cause you can't intervene.

We be the outcast, down for the settle. Won't play the rock, won't play the pebble.

Touche. Just I wish since we were this bad we get the first pick. We need to draft someone like Chris or Jake Long.

Eagles/Heels/Dawgs/Falcons/Hawks

louisville fan here

i don't want him back for a few reasons. one we don't know if he would take another job the year afterward. he had been reported to be looking at a new job after every season. he built a powerhouse in the 4 years here and then bailed at 11:59.59 for a pro job. now louisville is in a worse situation than when he first got here granted. but a lot of that was due to getting rid of players that had problems swept under the rug last year and losing some good defensive players to the nfl. i don't know of any coach that returns after leaving the way he did and generates the fan support he had. this is not the hardest media town on its sports heroes and he still bailed. NO ONE is going to believe a word out of his mouth anymore.

two, current coach steve kragthorpe made major staff changes. i was never one to fire him immediately and i think that it takes time for that staff to gel with each other and with his players. petrino disciplined players through fear. kragthorpe does it through playing time.

three, tom jurich is not going to consider bringing him back. one of the words that was thrown around quite a few times during the presser to announce steve kragthorpe earlier this year was "class". sure bobby can "O", but he wasn't the type of person who would represent the city and university of louisville with any class whatsoever.

Ad yet you still have a decent shot at beating the Bucs next weekend. Not because theyre not a talanted team, but because we have a history of losing games to teams we have absolutely no right to be losing to.

Do ATL fans really call Vick their own now? I would had thought that that ship had sailed.

There's still a VERY good number of fans that are holding on to the hope that once Vick gets out of jail, he will come back to the Falcons, as a QB no less. I'd probably say 45% still think Vick's coming back.

And hedley, this was seriously one of the first times I've been embarrassed to say I'm a fan of the Falcons. I'm still not gonna do the fashionable thing and jump ship, but this is definitely a low time. We might not be the worst team in the NFL, but it's hard to find an NFL organization that's in worse shape than this one, even with the Dolphins about to go 0-16. At least they have their glory days to fall back on. We have nothing to fall back on. This is about as low as it gets.

What would have been Petrino's chances of being fired at then end of the season? Was going to Arkansas really that much better of a job or was he just that uncomfortable in Atlanta?

I doubt that Blank/McKay would've given him the axe. They probably would've given him the benefit of the doubt, and if he failed next year, he'd be gone.

But Petrino left. I mean, he inherited that job with the best of intentions, and it turned into a nightmare quickly. But if he thinks that Arkansas is gonna be better, he's got another thing coming. Houston Nutt went 10-2 and got them to the SEC Championship last year, and people called for his head. Those are some crazy ass fans.

This is just weird. Another case of college coaches not working in the pros and running back to their comfort zone. The trend continues: coordinators are a franchises best hope to make good coaches.

He's still on the roster, technically.

I wish they would disown his sorry ass sooner than later, to hell with the cap ramifications.

You say that now. Wait until we cut him, and can't sign anybody else for a few years? I say let the legal system do what they can with the money, so we can get it back without having to do anything more drastic.

My wife and I saw this news as it broke and just went, "Wow...good grief, what's next?"

I'm surprised and disappointed at how many "I can't blame him..." posts there are. I CAN and DO blame him. Sure the Falcons' situation is terrible, and obviously wasn't what he signed on for. With that said, there's such a thing as integrity, and a man with integrity would have waited until the season was over before bailing on his team and their fans. As many have pointed out, it's no surprise with this clown because he clearly couldn't define integrity if his life depended on it. Is Arthur Blank really this terrible a judge of character? Or with all his money can the poor guy still not find anyone trustworthy? Vick and now Petrino. It's baffling how this franchise - which, as a Saints fan, I was impressed by and worried about just a few years ago - has flamed out so quickly and completely. Their own fans are even calling the current logo the "nosedive Falcon." Personally I think it's just had a few too many drinks... B)

I've been a Saints fan since I saw my first game in 1969 and hate the Falcons with a passion, but I can't enjoy this because the fans and even the players just don't deserve it. That's why the continued support for Vick is just astounding. Um, news flash folks, he's not a victim, he's the one who got this gigantic boulder that is now your franchise started rolling down a very steep mountain...and it just went off a cliff. Amazing...sad...unbelievable.

That was the most awkward press conference I've ever seen. I thought Petrino, was supposed to be "exciting".

I'm paraphrasing but:

"I believe in running the football. Running it when you need to run it. Running it when you have to.

I believe in passing the football. Passing it when you need to pass it. Passing it when you have to.

I believe defenses should stop the run and pressure the quarterback."

Really? That's your philosophy? You're going to run the football and pass the football. On Defense you want to stop the run. And hurry the pass.

Where have I heard that before? Oh that's right. EVERY FOOTBALL COACH I'VE HAD SINCE MIDDLE SCHOOL. My pee-wee coach would have said it too, but I was to big to play pee-wee football.

I agree completely. The guy walked out on his team. That's not right no matter how bad things are. Wait until the end of the year. Have coaches always been such jackasses or is it just that I am noticing it more now that I used to?
