Was this the Patriots unused logo from the 70s?

I couldn't find the original post, but a while back someone was looking for info about a proposed Patriots logo change that had been shown to the fans in Foxboro during halftime of a game in 1979 or so, and the fans booed it so badly the Patriots scrapped the idea. All I remember hearing is that it looked something like the current Flying Elvis look. On the gumball thread, Lukas has a link to 'prototype' NFL helmet, and a Patriots one is here, so I'm wondering if this is it:

I like that one better than the Elvis patriot - much better.

This sheet includes various alternate helmet designs from fans - these were never used nor considered by the teams.

Arizona Cardinals

Atlanta Falcons

Buffalo Bills

Cleveland Browns

Miami Dolphins

New England Patriots

New York Jets

Philadelphia Eagles

Cincinatti Bengals (Full Helmet - Black)

Just concepts, people.

Both pale in comparison to the majestic countenance of Pat Patriot.

How 'bout that Bills concept in the same photo? And click on the next image for some Bucs concepts.

All those Bucs ones are based off of the losing designs from the 97 update. Personally, I think they got it right, cause while some of those are pretty decent, most of em suck.

The logo that was booed down in 1979 was actually more of a swirling "P"

I wish I could find an image of that logo, but I do remember when it was displayed for fans. There was actually a live "vote" at halftime of a game. They displayed the logo current at the time "pat patriot" and the new logo and asked fans to vote with applause for the one they wanted. Pat Patriot won in a landslide. In fact, the new logo was booed loudly. Pat Patriot then stayed as the logo until Elvis came along......
