ANGELCAT-IDA61
I bet the A's will ditch that new black alternate jersey by mid season, after losing ten games in a row wearing them. They may as well stick with the green ones!
Telemundo219
It's funny that the A's "own" green but because they're "thinking outside the box", they're still thinking about owning more "GREEN" in terms of the money they're going to make off jersey sales and looking "hip" from another Black Alt. College sports as we know them are just about dead. The lid is off on all the corruption that taints just about every major program and every decision that the schools or the NCAA make is only about money, money, and more money. We'll have three 16+ team super-conferences sooner rather than later, killing much of the regional flair and traditional rivalries that make college sports unique and showing the door to any school that doesn't bring money to the table in the process. Pretty soon the smaller schools are going to have to consider forming their own sanctioning body to keep the true spirit of college sports alive because the NCAA will only get worse in it's excess from here

tohasbo
I remember when this year's uniforms were leaked earlier that these WERE NOT a part of the new ones for this season. But maybe they will be okay...
boardname
I'm assuming this is legit because all of their players are wearing them during the Fanfest right now. They look terrible, green would be 100000% better.

BallWonk
Well, their new alt cap is also black, with the same white-green-yellow logo/outline configuration. Also, the A's model of licensed Crocs shoes are black with a black flap, not green and yellow. Apparently, the A's really are all about the black this year. Why would this team push black so hard? I see more green-and-yellow A's gear around the country than just about any non-Yankees, non-Boston team, and it's pretty clear from context that it's largely about the distinctive colors. Why try to become the team whose stuff you buy when the store runs out of Mets gear?
Gothamite
Don't know. It's even more bizarre when you consider that black is one of the signature colors of their local rivals. Proc
...The A's should reintroduce a gold/yellow alternate with a cap that has a gold/yellow crown and green bill. That would be truly the most classic alternate of all.I've got one of those way-cool plastic batting helmets I bought in the early 70s...Yellow crown and green bill. Its still in decent shape too. The yellow crown/green bill was cool. The A's coaches back then wore white caps with green brims if I am not mistaken.
FiddySicks
Why would this team push black so hard?Because they're in mourning over all the talent they just gave away for next to nothing. Now on the hat, I love it, but thats mainly because I like the A's and 90% of my wardrobe is black (Not because my soul is anguished, but because it's slimming ) So it'll go well with what I have. TruColor
I always thought the addition of a Black alt had more to do with their stadium-mates - the Raiders - than the Giants. But I could be wrong. Why not just go with a darker Forest Green, and pair it with a Kelly Green and Gold?:

But I could be wrong. Why not just go with a darker Forest Green, and pair it with a Kelly Green and Gold?:That's what they should've done. That looks so much better (and makes much more sense) than adding a black uniform. That being said, the black A's cap looks amazingly good. Too bad they'll actually wear it. That would've made much more sense as a fashion hat, because I want one (like Dan said, most of my wardrobe is black so it would've fit in cleanly.) bohob
Don't know. It's even more bizarre when you consider that black is one of the signature colors of their local rivals. It will look really weird when they wear those, seeing as how they are the only MLB team with white shoes. If they want to add another color, my vote is kelly green. It would look so much better with forest and gold. Artmanc3po
I too think the usage of black in this case is pointless, but I actually really like the cap, just not for on-field use. Now that the Rays have ditched green for the colors o' the week, the A's really had a chance to look distinctive.Coincidentally, I went in a local sporting goods store this past weekend and 2006 and 2007 promotional posters for Outdoor Cap. I emailed them though their website, www.outdoorcap.com, and requested a couple for 2008, just because they looked so cool in that they showed all the MLB caps for the year as well as selected MiLB caps. They came yesterday UPS, free gratis, and the black A's cap is right there. (One glaring omission is the new Cleveland alt C cap--must have been printed before those were released.) Looked at with a glance, the poster looks like the Blue-n-Black League, with a Little Red Thrown In. Great poster, though. I'll be requesting another in '09. hormone
So this is what you get if uniforms can mate? I think a Pirate uni mated with an A's uni and this is their bastard child.
Byron19
I know that I'm definitely in the minority here, but I like the black uniform, it reminds me of this black Starter-esque A's jacket I had when I was in high school way back in 1990. BadSeed84
I saw the hat today, it was right below their former black hat, which stilll gets made for some reason, I will say it looks better than their early 2000's back uniforms, but still, its pointless, the late 90s called they want their trend back
