Top Story on ESPN.com: Favre sends text message to Packers GM

WTMJ-TV in Milwaukee reported Monday that Favre sent a text message to Packers GM Ted Thompson on Saturday -- and that Thompson's reply was that he is on vacation and the two men will have to talk later.

The people at ESPN don't even know what the text message entailed, yet they post another story assuming that Favre has the "itch" (I'm already sick of that term) and it has to be another sign he is coming back as Packers QB, all because he sent a random text message to his old GM. This all comes AFTER Brett publicly stated last week that rumors of a comeback were NOT true.

Seriously, ESPN needs to let this the :censored: go. If Brett is ever going to return, then just let it happen and STOP fabricating these ridiculous stories!!

If ESPN would stop with the Favre-wank, the would realize there are other stories out there, like the one bucco posted a few posts up. The Tony Gonzales story should be the one we are talking about not whether or not Favre sent a text message. i swear if Favre comes out of retirement, theres going to be a white creamy substance flow out of bristol, Conn.

Thug! Criminal! These people never learn! What a waste!

[Rick James]Cocaine is a helluva drug![/Rick James]

In all seriousness, coke scares the :censored: outta me. The first memory I have of it is Lenny Bias' overdose 22 years ago. Forget that it's shamefully stupid to get caught cutting coke in the whip, forget that his career was already hanging on by a thread, hell forget that it's ILLEGAL. That :censored: can kill you!!

Woah, thats crazy. And I had no idea Matt Jones was such a bust. I always thought he was doing somewhat well with the transition. Guess while I wasn't looking, he completely fell off.

Matt Jones busted for cocaine.

Welp, his Jaguar career is over.

One of the dumbest first round picks ever. To this day, I don't know what the Jag braintrust was thinking.

Yeah that was kind of a head scratcher. Idk how they figured that'd work.

Well...to Jones's credit, he was looked at mighty hard by several NFL teams who viewed him as possibly a "slash"-type player--a receiver who could also play QB if/when needed, so the versatility was attractive. HOWEVAH...a first-round pick for him? Uh...nah, bruh.

Ah well--sometimes you win some, sometimes you lose some. (But who knew Matt was a cokehead, though???)

At least Fred Taylor is still around... ^_^

Apparently ESPN analysts are picking the Lions to be the most likely team to pull a Tampa Bay Rays in the NFL this season. Does this mean they're gonna be decent, or am I gonna have to sit through a 4-12 season?

here's hoping for 8-8.

that's how bad it is now. hoping for a season that doesn't end sub .500. oh well. least the wings won this year!

According to Chris Mortensen, Brett Favre has asked for his release from the Packers in the chance that he comes back.

So yeah, if he comes back, he's not gonna be a Packer.

I really believe it when i see a press conference with Favre saying he wants this to happen.

Alright--this Favre :censored: is getting overly ridiculous now. You know...pretty soon there's going to be a Brett Favre random fact generator with random Brett Favre "facts" floating around the world wide web, similar to the whole Chuck Norris thing.

Oh--and, according to "reports", now he "emphatically" wants to play in '08.

[bucfan56]

Hey Brett...YOU F***ING RETIRED!!!!!!!!!!

STAY THAT WAY!!!

In a deliberate attempt to steer away from Favre-a-mania...the judge done determined the Redskins won't be paying no Native Americans no monies no time soon.

That's what I've been saying from the jump of this 'controversy.' Also, I tend to take what Chris Mortensen says with a grain of salt. That man has a history of inaccurate reporting. Him and Ric Bucher. Have I mentioned in the past that I don't like Bucher? :P

Favre's request to be released was confirmed by local media. Packers said no. The request was not an official request to be reinstated, so it is still officially meaningless.

I get that he wants to play, but the timing is :censored:ty. Not as bad as what Ricky Williams did to the Dolphins, of course. Still, if the Packers wanted to be dicks, they could take him back and make him ride the pine (even with his salary).

Favre is god in Green Bay. Will the people allow that?

The people here would hate it, especially if Rodgers gets off to a slow start. But I think the fans are mixed because of the flip-flop nature of Favre. I think Rodgers time is now. If Brett comes back, Rodgers should be traded.

I'm in 100% agreement with the Packers in this situation. Here's my scenario...

"Brett" has held down a job at the local factory for roughly fifteen years. The guy is one hell of a worker, quite possibly best "packer" the industry has ever seen. But after many years of being the factory's "team leader", "Brett" comes to the decision that it's time to leave the profession and move onto something else. After several months go by, "Brett" reconsiders, and wants to come back to the same company where he found great success as a "packer". However, they've already given "Brett's" old job as "team leader" to his highly touted understudy of three years, "Aaron", who has already shown great signs progression.

Now you tell me... If you're in charge, do jeopardize your company's future by demoting or letting go of "Aaron" all because "Brett" can't make up his mind if he wants to work for your company ot not?

I just felt like I needed to vent this out there.

I just got done watching about 10 minutes of ESPN, and I have to say that I am sick of the sympathy parade for Aaron Rodgers. Okay, we get it. He's in a tough spot. But come on! He's getting paid a very healthy salary, is about to become the quarterback of the Green Bay Packers, and his management and coaching believes in him so much that they are willing to turn down one of the greatest QB's of all time after an epic (yet brief) retirement. For crying out loud, they talk about him is as if he has the feelings of a MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRL! Aaron Rodgers is a man; and if worse comes to worse, he'll get to sit back, learn from one of the all-time greats for another year, and cash in on a first round salary.

I have to say I've been a life long Packers fan, and Brett Favre is by far my favorite athlete of all time. But this is just ridiculous, and quite frankly am losing a lot of respect for the man. For the past 3 seasons he's been hanging the Pack on by a string, should I retire? Am I gunna? Wait I wanna play, hold on, no I don't. And then to come back, really just screws with Green Bay's off-season dealings, and makes him look like a jackass.

I knew this was going to happen. I feel like maybe he planned this whole thing out. Anybody else get that feeling? When the Packers failed to sign Moss and he retired I think he was looking for an easy and quiet exit out of Green Bay, only to come back a few months later without having to ask to be released or traded. But it backfired.

You retired Brett, give it up, everyone knows you can still play there is nothing left to prove. And if he suits up in another uniform next year well that would just... well that's not gunna happen, so I'm not gunna think about it.

And stop playing this story over and over and over on ESPN, ESPNEWS, FSN, and every other viable media outlet. Christ. I'm so sick of hearing about this dude.
