Bull- :censored:. It's different and you know it. A baseball game isn't a political forum. The President was there representing the office and the country not his politics or his policies. We certainly have the right to boo him at a ball game but that doesn't make it any less disrespectful. The President has those same rights but if he had used his time in the booth on ESPN to make a pitch for his policies or the GOP agenda you would be leading the charge to bitch about it.

If Barry Bonds were making the first pitch and people booed him, would you have a problem with it? I think it's the same thing.

Forget "respect for the office." That's for old-timers and nincompoops. People don't like the man and they let him hear it. Just once in eight years is certainly acceptable. And I'm sure Mr. Bush can take it.

Barry Bonds and The President are the same thing? Now that's funny. And no, I wouldn't have a problem the crowd booing Bonds. As I said before, it's different and you know it. Old-timers and nincompoops eh? When did showing some respect for our President, no matter how unpopular he may be, go so horribly out of style? Does being so contrary ever get old for you? Better yet, do you ever end up contradicting yourself? I'd think it would have to happen eventually. :D

Well, I get my shot in and then it's back to baseball, deal?

My argument is that paying baseball fans can boo whoever is on the field. Your argument is that the president is not a normal citizen and should be above regular baseball decorum. Somehow, my opinion is unacceptable and that makes me contrarian and hypocritical. Oh well. Some people learn to attack the argument and not the person, while others, I guess, went to Ohio State.

I'm not a fan of President Bush, but booing guests of honor (Presidents, Commissioners, etc.) is disrespectful. It's this type of attitude and mindset that has me wanting a non-Democrat elected into Office this year. (And as long as Obama and Clinton continue to compete and shoot themselves in the foot by "misspeaking", it'll only work against them....) But way back when, I was told by a friend to never mix sports with politics, so I'll just say that I hope your's and Infrared's golf games are going well.....

I'm not all that concerned about tonight's loss....it's usually tough to win on the road in a team's home opener, especially one where they're opening a new building, on prime-time national TV, and with bigger-than-usual anthem singers and first-pitch tossers. The pitching was solid and the team rallied to force the bottom of the 9th.

Eh. The script was too much like too many losses I've seen from the Braves over the past 2 years...

-Come out with a shaky first inning pitching-wise

-Come out with stale bats

-Stabilize both, and make a strong comeback (normally with 2 outs)

-Lose game due to terrible relief/closing pitching.

I hope that they get this out of their system, because if not then this will definitely be another playoff-less year for the Braves if this continues to occur. BUT, this is early and baseball's a marathon, so yeah, I'm not TOO worried. Yet.

Snazzy uniforms, though. I need to pick up a hat ASAP.

Quandary tomorrow. I have class at 1:15, and if I go, I won't get home until after 3:00. The best rivalry in the National League goes down at 1:20, and it's on THREE STATIONS! I can have my pick. If I get tired of the Cubs-praising commentators on WGN, or moreso on ESPN2, I can switch over to FSN.

So I'm not sure, but biology is about as useful to me as a headcold, so I think I'll skip and watch the game. Has anyone done this?

But the Cubs and the Cardinals are not playing each other tomorrow.

It's awesome when opinion is stated as fact.

I would have made the deal if you had left my alma mater out if it. You made it personal so I have to respond.

My opinion is reduced to being the opinion of a "nincompoop." How is that not attacking the person? Your opinion is perfectly acceptable. It's wrong and I disagree with it but I don't have a problem with it. That said, you are contrary. It doesn't make you a bad person. Pointing it out isn't an attack it's just an observation. Given the choice, I would much rather be called contrary than be called a nincompoop. Oh well. Some people learn to behave like adults at a baseball game while others, I guess, went to UW to learn how to be dour and miserable. :P

I ditched ECON once last year so I could drive up to Milwaukee to see the Halos and Indians at Miller Park. It is totally worth it, especially on opening day. Hope your guys crush the Cubs this afternoon. Long live the Ball-in-Glove.

Well I'm at home now, but it's raining, and I just got home and haven't heard any news if the game is still on.

The Cubs and Cardinals would be good if the Cardinals were relevant this year. Historically, yes, but this year it's going to be Cubs-Brewers and I'd say Padres-Rockies in the National League for best relevant rivalry. (The Dodgers might also have something, and Mets-Phillies possibly. I included Padres-Rockies because of what happened last year.)

It's my opinion, yes. It'll be possibly the most interesting rivalry, to amend my previous statement.

Ever since Philly fans booed Santa, no ones untouchable.

You've lost your mind if you think Cubs Brewers is the best rivalry in the division let alone in the NL.

Attend a Husky football game in the past few years, and you'll understand why we're "dour and miserable". <_<

Anyone watching Sox/Indians?,that is most piss poor umpiring i've ever seen in my ******* life :angered:,Ozzie file a protest please.

I didn't see the plays but the Tribe announcers just referred to some "questionable calls" against the White Sox. What happened?

In other news, I have MLB Extra Innings and they are showing both the home and away telecasts. Usually it's just the home team or whatever is available if both teams aren't showing the game. I hope this is permanent. It spares me from having to endure the home announcers for the Red Sox and Yankees. It would also mean I get Vin Scully for every Dodgers game.

Edit: Tribe wins thanks to a bases loaded 2 out double by Casey Blake in the bottom of the 8th. Joe Borowski once again walks the high wire to close it out. Why this guy is a major league closer is anyone's guess. His luck has to run out eventually.

I was one of the ones booing Pres Bush, because its not often you get to voice your displeasure at a person in power, and dammit im taking my shot! and besides, the so called tradition of sitting Presidents throwing out the first pitch at DC baseball games ended last year when that little crook of a Dick (Cheney im talking) threw out the first pitch at RFK.

besides that nonsense, this park is magnificent. unfortunately i didnt get any pics, we got in our seats just as Bush was throwing out the first pitch, didnt have much time to just walk around and take it in, but the atmosphere was great. getting home was a bit of a hassle, but i'll give them some time before they work out the kinks, MLB and the Nats just had to have it ready for the first game in the states for national tv. Zimmerman tho, how clutch is he?

It was a great game. Nice to see the Nats bring in the new era in such exciting fashion.
