Wait, wait, wait... that fantastic Blue Jay alt is a HOME uni!???! That's crazy. For me, that bit of info just took it from "Love it" to "Dumb". Light Blue uniforms are ROAD uniforms. Period. What, can the Reds use their "big Red Machine" pull-over Gray set as a home alt now? No? How is it any different? I know this puts me in the minority, but I believe all Home uniforms should be WHITE... pants AND jersey. Road uniforms should be gray, mostly, but for variety some teams can be light blue, biege, charcole, whatever, but again it should be jersey AND PANTS. The pants and jersey should always match... that's what makes it a Baseball uniform. I hate all the dark jersey, softball crap. Thats why they invented batting practice jerseys... why wear them in the game?

And yes, I also think the players look like morons running around with their pants hanging over the tops of their shoes.

Post of the day, as far as I'm concerned. Agree 110% with every point you made.

OK...so, according to some in this thread:

1) All home uniforms should be white, probably with pinstripes, and the first letter of the city name on the left breast IN ONE COLOR, with a one color number on the back, and no name.

2) All road uniforms should be gray or blue or brown, with the city name on the front IN ONE COLOR block letters, with a one color number on the back, and no name.

3) All pants should be knickers

4) All socks should be stirrups

5) Bringing back flannel would be a super cool idea

6) And baseball should contract back to 16 teams w/ no divisions, no wild cards, etc. League winners advance straight to the WS.

7) Season probably ought to be cut back to 154 games.

Paul Lukas, is that you???

The blue alts are back, as Soriano wears it for the first time...

Given the choice between wearing pants like Fukudome and wearing pants like Soriano, I'd go with the Fukudome look every time.

However, if you just have to wear knickers, Soriano is doing one thing right: he's not wearing 'em baggy. Baggy knickers is absolutely the worst look you can chose, IMHO.

Not me - Soriano's got it right, while Fukudome looks like a clown.

They both look like clowns.

Solid socks just don't look good to me. Especially not with the solid color jersey.

Gimme a thick white stripe with a thin red stripe in the middle of it, and then you've got a good look.

Or maybe just a thick white stripe with three blue horizontal pinstripes to play off the jersey.

Anyways, point is they need stripes. I think about the only non-striped look that seems OK is navy stripes with grey unis.

Who still has stripes on the socks? The Cardinals do, but I think only Brian Barton shows them. The Red Sox recently did, but those are gone are they not? Anybody else?

Seems like socks are just an afterthought anymore, so it has to be a traditional look I'd think, but nobody is coming to mind.

Personally, I like the look that Soriano's rocking more than what Fukudome's wearing, but I'm not gonna go as far as to call the dude a clown for the way he prefers to wear his pants. Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks.

But back to the Cubs look...If the blue on the hat matched the blue on the jersey, I'd love that look. Maybe it's the lighting, but the hat is a different shade of blue than the beautiful shade of blue on the jersey, and that really irks me.

I personally love that Soriano wears his socks high/ But at the same time I think that Fukudome looks pretty decent as well. I wish that more players wore their pants higher, but at the same time I can see why they go with comfort and wear em low and a bit baggy.

The Pirates have a Pittsburgh 250 patch today. Is this a one-time deal for the home opener?

Pirates to wear commemorative patch on home jerseys

To help commemorate the 250th anniversary of the naming of Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Pirates announced today that the club will wear a Pittsburgh 250 patch on their home jerseys throughout the 2008 season. The Pirates will take the field for the first time wearing the commemorative patch on Monday, April 7, at 1:35 p.m. when they take on the Chicago Cubs.

I guess that it depends on what you grew up with and long pants in baseball seems to be an irreversable tide because so many players will have always worn them long. It just seems too bad that baseball is losing/lost a traditional uniform look. What, stirrups and showing socks lasted for nearly 100 years? That doesn't seem like much of a fad. Look, everyday I see kids and young adults walking around in public in flip-flops and panjama pants. I don't expect men to be wearing straw hats and women skirts, but decorum has certainly declined in the last 10-15 years, and uniforms are reflecting that shift. Sorry, I'm grumpy today.

I didn't call him a clown, I said he looked like a clown. Which he does - he's going to step on the cuff of his pants and perform a fabulous pratfall at some point.

Some people can't win. Soriano wears the pants high, but with the wrong socks. Too bad.

In high school, I wanted to wear my baseball pants long (between the bottom of the calf and the ankle), but the pants weren't long enough. At the time, everyone wore the mid-calf super-tight pants. Now, when I play softball, I wear my pants up like Soriano / Hunter Pence / Ichiro because I like the look. Maybe I'm just a contrarian.

Go Astros!

Go Texans!

Go Rockets!

Go Javelinas!

Also, are the Rays wearing navy or black belts and cleats? It looks like Crawford is wearing a navy belt and black cleats trimmed in navy and light blue, while Upton is wearing a black belt. Evan Longoria appears to be wearing a black belt and black cleats in the spring training photo.

I have some good pics(not yet uploaded) of Crawford's cleats that I personally took during spring training. Crawford has unique, personalized cleats that are pretty sharp. Yes, they do have the light blue trim......good eye.

Am I the only one who thinks it should be a natural for the Rays to wear powder blue road unis instead of gray ones?

I mean, the uniforms are soooooooo boring and uninspired, the least they could´ve done is to show something unique, using one of their primary colors.

Just a thought...

Yeah, but that wouldn't have fit in with their "play it safe at all costs, don't rock any boat and try to satisfy everybody within five hundred miles" philosophy.

So funny, and so true.

Post of the day.

The Cubs say that the blue jerseys won't be worn much, but they appear in two straight games. I'd rather have them wear the alt as a road only jersey, because I like the pinstripes so much.

Yeah, bad sign. On WGN radio they said the pitcher picks, but they admitted they had no clue. I hope that isn't the case, because we'll see them all the time again.

After yesterday, I was hoping it had been downgraded to Sunday alt. Now the best-case scenario might be pitcher's choice on the road, Sunday only at home. Doubt it, though.

after talking w someone i know that works at the phillies office, they said they didnt get new helmets bc they are only goin to wear the jersey a few times, (home day games only). i was like ok but yet for the last season at the Vet they phillies had on throwbacks for the 1st 3 home games of that season and they had helments to match, but whatever, i kinda like the red helment better then the blue ne way. if they do keep them, and i think they wont, they should ditch the blue cap and just wear the red one
