DaytonBlue
Thanks for the pic. It's almost as if their approaching it like the Seattle Sounders did with being "promoted" to MLS. cmm
That pretty much sums up what they are doing, according to this article.http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/hockey/nhl/wires/10/08/2040.ap.hkn.jets.opener.0710/"When we acquired this team, we had 125 people working for (the Moose),'' co-owner Mark Chipman said Saturday. "It's now up to about 175, but those 125 people had a very deep sense of pride in what we had done for the 15 years prior. So, to us, this is the same organization with a different name.''"It's not like we're trying to distance ourselves from the past,'' he said. "We're just trying to forge ahead as the reincarnation or the next step of what we've been doing.''
CMUBrent
Four new banners at Wings Stadium this year. Two banners for the Canucks and Devils, a Northern Division Champions banner and an Eastern Conference Champions banner.BTW, it took about half of the first period to unroll the championship banners! Generic
I'll have to take a picture of the rafters here in Amherst sometime. I find all rafters interesting (if banners are there of course.)
cajunaggie08
Heres the Houston Aeros' AHL Western Conference Champions banner from last season. Pretty clean looking. Could have done without the Wild logo at the bottom, but since the Wild owners also own the Aeros now, i guess they want to leave their mark on the team that they built. The banner does stand out from the previous Aeros banners at Toyota Center. All blue and white and then a brand new green one. I'm not wishing the change the old ones though as each one of the banners represents the team's look at the time and the Wild had nothing to do with any of the previous titles. njmeadowlanders
I think the player names on the border is a nice touch.
RedSox44
I think the player names on the border is a nice touch.I agree. I expect to see that spreading to other teams, too (like the gold-tinted jerseys for the banner-raising game, which is common in both the NBA and MLB now). You can't put an entire NFL roster on a banner.

BJ Sands
The Bulls have been doing it since they re-did their championship banners in 1994:
marlinfan
Not a fan of overly complex banners. I'm all for differentiating division titles from conference and league titles, especially for teams that don't have the luxury of several chamoionships to display, but there should be a better alternative than what the Mavs did. BBTV
Looks like the Flyers changed their retired number banners when they retired Mark Howe's number a couple of weeks ago. I liked the old ones better because they emphasized the number, which despite how clear it is in my picture, isn't that noticeable from the other side of the arena or the upper level. That's strange to see, especially when the old ones were up when I saw the Black Keys concert just a few weeks ago. The old ones were much nicer. The pictures of the players aren't consistent. Why shouldn't his number be retired? To me the Spurs should only have three numbers retired. Gervin, Robinson and whenever Tim Duncan decides to call it a quits. If they want to do a ring of honor for other guys that's fine, but to say guys like Avery Johnson and Sean Elliott meant just as much to the Spurs franchise as did David Robinson is a bit absurd. Then again this is a team that also decided to retire Johnny Moore and his zero time all-star NBA career over Artis Gilmore, so I'm not looking for much logic when it comes to how the Spurs decide to retire numbers.
