The Nordiques are not comming back, neither are the Jets, Whalers, the North Stars, the Barons, the Seals, the Rockies, the Pirates, the Eagles, Quakers or the Maroons.

so like the recent WHA this thing is dead on arrival.

[Mod edit: Stop that.]

The english version doesn't have much to offer, but the french version has a buttload of information. It's no joke man. The Nords will return some day and so will the Jets. Whaddya think, that Nashville and Florida are gonna stick around forever with attendance hovering somewhere around 12000? Do you think that the Blue Jackets are just going to keep missing the playoffs and that their fans won't grow tired of this nonsense? Those teams will eventually move, probably north of the border where hockey matters. So when Coast2Coast spouts off a bunch of mumbo-jumbo about the Jets and Nords never coming back, she is clearly out to lunch. Give me a frickin' break!

You used Google to search for "complete waste of time"?

If hockey matters so much, how come Le Colissee hasn't been replaced yet?

Le Colisee has not been replaced yet, but eventually it will be. Hey, this may take 20 years, but to say that hockey is never coming back to a market that is clearly crazy about hockey is, quite frankly, ignorant.

It's not ignorant, it's realistic in today's NHL. The logic is to not expand to markets where hockey is popular because there are already fans there, the goal is to get new fans.

If Quebec City wants an NHL team they should all stop watching hockey and turn to the NBA or something, then the NHL will come calling.

They planned to build a new one while they still had the Nordiques, but I suppose they don't want to fall in the same scenario as Winnipeg where they built an arena that is just not quite big enough?

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html...751C0A963958260

The swirling sale rumors complement Aubut's arena-building agenda. Jean Martineau, a team spokesman, insisted the team wanted to stay in Quebec and said last week that the Nordiques wanted to finance construction through either a provincial lottery or through revenue from gambling casinos.

"That way, there's no tax money involved," Martineau said. "It's all voluntary." The arena should have 19,000 seats and 80 boxes, he said. The Nordiques are now filling 91 percent of their 15,399 seats in le Colisee.

Best part of the article:

With another referendum on provincial sovereignty approaching in Quebec, what French politician voting on arena financing would want to take the blame for the creation of the "Phoenix Sudiques"?

I saw, I came, I left.

Why are we assuming there will be a NHL 20 years down the road? If Bettman is as big an idiot as everybody claims he is, the folding of the league cannot be outside the realm of possibility.

As a more practical matter, will Quebec ever bring more to the table than a full arena? There is more to determining the worthiness of a market than attendance.

I understand people in Quebec City want the NHL back but it will never happen, its like bringing MLB back to Brooklyn.

There is a team that Quebec fans can root for in the Canadiens, the Senators are also farily close I believe, and its too small of market to ever compete.

Whaddya think, that Nashville and Florida are gonna stick around forever with attendance hovering somewhere around 12000?

14,910 and 15,436 respectively, but thanks for playing. That second number, by the way, is just ahead of the Boston Bruins.

Those teams will eventually move, probably north of the border where hockey matters.

No, those teams will move to cities like Kansas City, with shiny new arenas, lots of luxury boxes, and plenty of opportunity for corporate dollars. They will not be moving to a 60-year-old, 15,400-seat, ramshackle barn in a metro area of 700,000 with vague promises of a new arena if a team shows up first. Remind me why the Noridques moved in the first place? Nor will they move to a sparkly new arena in a similarly small metro area, with a non-NHL seating capacity of 15,015 that would require either a major renovation or an entirely new facility to be sustainable. And no one seems particularly interested in throwing money at either of those solutions.

Here's an idea: the next time you feel like writing something, have a thought. It makes it so much more interesting for the reader.

Gotta throw that in there now since the Blues finished dead last in attendance last year, eh?

St. Louisans are bandwagoners, and I have never really gone out of my way to defend my fellow fans of St. Louis sports teams.

Of course, some of us fans of St. Louis teams don't feel inclined to give money to an organization that 1) followed up a canceled season with a massive fire sale, 2) played poorly for two years because of an impending sale, and 3) traded away the defense while the team was still very much in the playoff hunt for "a retarded ogre on skates". <_<

Good point, but when Expos fans did the same thing, well, you know the rest of the story.
