hecticbro
Frankly, as an Oklahoma team it really should have an American Indian/aboriginal name. This was Indian Territory for many years. Cultural Marxism (P.C.) be damned. Braves might be good but ...Thinking outside the frames imposed in this thread:CimmeronsEclipseHammersCapitols (capitol city of OK)MammothsRamblersShootersThose don't really sound threatening enough for me. What about the OKC X-treme Skalperz?
mfoster
I like:* "Boomers" for the land rush of 1889 (although not very PC since they were taking land that had been given to the Native Americans as reservations)I'd say "taken" is a harsh term. The 89er Run was in the Unassigned Lands, an area purchased back from the Creeks and Seminoles for about $1.3M (approx 69 cents an acre) in 1866 as a consequence of those tribe's support of the Confederacy during the war. The Last Run (1893) was in the Cherokee Outlet (aka Cherokee Strip), an area previously being leased by the tribe to ranchers, but was purchased from the tribe prior to settlement for $7M (a dollar an acre, but as farming land goes it was far superior in quality compared to the Unassigned Lands surrounding OKC). In comparison, we bought Alaska from the Russians in 1867 for $7.2M (1.9 cents an acre).

Autistic Psycho
Not to bump up a two week old topic, but... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oklahoma_City_sonic_boom_testsSo, Oklahoma City Sonics could work, though I prefer something like the Barons or Generals, something generically "Western" sounding. worcat
what about using some historical information:Land Runners - based on settlement actFlycatchers - state birdBison - state animalState Colors : Green/WhiteI understand trying to make a name sound 'cool' but alot of teams actually use history in their decisions. I know alot of people on this board can come up with some clever ideas if you just research the area. Does anyone on the board actually live in OK that can feed us some information that we may not know or be able to find online? edwardgr
Well if it has not been suggested before I would say that the OKC team should be namedThe Seattle Supersonics. The team will play in Key Arena in Seattle, but because it is OKC's team they will be moved to the Southwest division.
