Wow, I was (foolishly) expecting a lively debate on the fate of vests, and more importantly pin-stripe vests vs plain vests.

...what i got was drivel.

In other news, I do enjoy the occasional scone.

No kidding. Wish I hadn't been holding out posting for nearly a day. What's even more amazing is that frozenguy actually thought he was getting the best of koizim and that we were all laughing at him. When in all actuallity, and I assume I speak for everyone here (correct me if I don't), we were all laughing at HIM. :D

Yep, that was pretty much the case. Still, ignorance is bliss. The one thing that I really wanted to see, though, was a full blown explosion by him once other people (besides me) began to call him out. I love it when people do things like that. It's highly amusing to me.

Nah. With the exception of the stupid daughter remark, I was laughing with him, not at him.

I enjoy solid jerseys with vests, not pinstripes. And I like when they have piping accents at the sleeve openings, like the Pirates. Also, there should never be a non-white or grey vest, and the Rockies show us why. they look like they belong on the Jetsons with those garbage alternates. Not to mention they completely ripped off the Sox' entire look....

What exactly is the point of this thread?

The Reds new uni set is gorgeous, and vests for the most part look amateurish. IMO only the Pirates and maybe the A's should be wearing them.

I think the only 3 teams that can pull off a vested look, based on past performances, are the Pirates, A's, and Reds. Interestingly enough, I think the first team to introduce the vested look was the Cubs, who abandoned them soon after. Also, I agree with other posters who say that there should not be any pinstripes on vests, and vests should only be white or road gray in color. One other minor gripe I have against vests designed in the last 15 yrs is the "winged" vest, which don't really look like vests as much as they look like jerseys with the sleeves cut off.

:D

Why did MLB stop opening the season in Cincy, anyway?

If I'm remembering correctly, ESPN's first big TV contract with MLB called for a Sunday night game to be the "official" season opener. The Reds refused to move their opener to Sunday night, preferring to keep the "traditional" Monday day game as their opener.

what sox look is that, the one with the faux vests?

ohhhhhh

(i just wanted to point out how bad the white sox suck at living)

Pretty much the whole scheme, except maybe the roads because they decided to slap those purple pinstripes on there...good move.....

But if you were to look at a Rockies player and a Sox player form the back, you wouldn't be able to distinguish them, unless you got up inches from the Rockies player's head to see the purple in the lil' MLB logo on his cap.

Also, they went to real vests a couple years ago. And as for "sucking at living", their world championship rings would argue differently...

Actually, MLB scheduled the Reds for the very first Sunday night game in 1994, but Marge Schott refused to market it as Opening Day (with traditional logos, banners, parades, etc.). Riverfront Stadium looked as plain as ever on ESPN, and only ~33K showed up that night. The Monday day game got all the Opening Day glitz and was sold out.

MLB took the hint and stopped scheduling the Reds for Sunday night season openers, in deference to Marge.

Wow, you're cool, bro; awesome witty retort, too. Seriously, anyone who makes comments about a complete stranger's sex life (or lack thereof) probably isn't getting any themselves. <_<

And someone who comments about someone who comment's about a complete stranger's sex life DEFINITELY isn't getting any themselves.

That'd be tough seeing as how I'm married and have a daughter. But thanks for playing.

..... So are you saying you're not getting any from EITHER? Damn. I'm sorry. That's like double-rejection.

Wow....you're reaching NoHoJoe levels of stupidity here. First, you criticize another member of the board for making an observation about a jersey (FWI: that's what this forum is about). Then, you embarrass yourself further by attacking another member of the board (instead of just manning up and admitting that your joke wasn't funny). Finally, for the icing on the cake, you somehow misunderstand a simple English sentence. So, please, enlighten me: are you acting like an idiot on purpose or does this come naturally to you?

NoHoJoe? Okay.... I don't speak "backwoods hick" lingo so I'll just skip over that term....

Here is a better question for you: If you consider me to be stupid, embarassing, misunderstanding, unmanly, and idiotic (none of which I have called you), yet you continue to have a dialogue with me, what does that make YOU? Please enlighten me. ^_^

1) I'm no backwoods hick. I'm from New York City, which is about as far from hick territory as one can get.

2) NoHoJoe is an exceedingly annoying member of this board.

3) Do you realize that your response is essentially "I know you are, but what am I?" Have I suddenly been sucked back through time to when I was in elementary school?

Considering that is your highest form of education, I'm not sure what other learning institution you could have been sucked back to. So, probably.

I feel that by arguing with someone of your intelligence, I am actually losing brains cells. In fact, your unimaginative, simple insults have led me to believe that you are somewhere in the range 13-15 years old. If so, isn't it a bit past your bed time?

Well, I am good practice. If you ever get a GED or anything you will need to learn to think critically, reason, etc. so don't get discouraged when arguing with someone of my intelligence. Think of it as practice.

Another tip: Age and intelligence aren't really correlated that well. You are living proof.... consideirng that you are married and have a kid, yet still are such a..... well, let's just say you are a little slow,. Yet there are kids in elementary school out there who can do calculus. I have no idea how you got 13-15, nor do I know how that is relevant in terms of intelligence.

And most 13-15 year olds dont really have bedtimes. When you grow up (at least mentally) you will (or should) be allowed to stay up as late as you want! Like even past midnight! But right now you need a bedtime so that once you are in bed your wife can make her nightly trip over to my place.... damn can you get to bed already...... oh :censored:, I've said too much.

I just wanted to set the record for most replies-within-a-reply.

As for the Reds. Yeah I agree they should still have a vest. I think first they should ditch all the black like they said they would.

They said they were getting rid of the black? Who what when...

When they switched from

to

before the new ones were released, there was talk that the black would be entirely eliminated, even replaced with navy blue. Never substantiated, but at least the Reds came to their senses and didn't add another iteration of red and navy to MLB.

Also, an ellipsis consists of three period marks.

Only when an omission occurs in mid-sentence or when the ellipsis is used to indicate a break in thought or speech is the three-dot ellipsis used. Furthermore, an em dash is traditionally used to indicate a break in thought or speech in English, not an ellipsis. A four-dot ellipsis is used at the end of a sentence, indicating by its spacing whether the omission occurs before or after the sentence-ending period. If the sentence is complete before the omission begins, three points of ellipsis follow the normal sentence-ending period [fig. A]. If the omission commences before the end of the sentence, the fourth point (the sentence-ending period) is added after the three points of ellipsis and is spaced the same as the other points [fig. B]. Also, four-dot ellipses are standard in Italian to indicate a break in thought or speech, not the three-dot variety.

I don't think they have lost since made this statement. I'd like to whole-heartedly retract, redact and subtract said statement. ^_^

Why would you laugh at HIM? I mean sure they're Finnish, but I mean I find a bunch of their tunes to be wonderfully head bobbing :D

I had completely forgotten that - I had kind of drifted away from baseball by that point although I had been a huge Reds fan in the 1970s; the 1981 strike put me off for a few years. I had just come back around to following baseball when the 1994 strike kind of did the sport in for me.
