Gray Royals hat?

I saw a clip of Alex Rodriguez hitting a home run as a Mariner in Seattle against the Royals, and KC was wearing a hat like this:

I've never seen it before, and it's not on Dressed-to-the-Nines. Anyone?

I liked that cap too. Here's a picture of just the cap

Bonus: The Pirates had a grey road cap as well during that period which I also thought was nice.

Ooh, I thought those were just awful. If there's a team that should always be in blue, it's the royals..

Mickeysplace.com STILL sells all three of those grey caps, as well as the D Backs short lived white cap

That was a beautiful hat

Jut to be difficult, in my opinion it's kind of an ugly hat as a hat. But it makes for a beautiful uniform. For me, it's the kind of element that works only in the right context. I'd love to see a team or two go to a gray hat on the road again. (Though not the Royals. Doesn't really work for a team with a name that speaks so directly to color. It's the kind of thing the Twins or Rockies could get away with.)

But how many road caps are sold vs. entire road uniforms? There's no room in today's world for an un-marketable cap.

Didn't the Orioles have a gray hat during that year?

Yes, the Orioles had a grey cap as well. I bought it when it came out. Its in my collection of caps in perfect condition still.

Not to change the topic of the thread but I am trying to think if there were any others in this style of white or gray caps with colored bills. I know the Pirates, Orioles and Royals had gray ones and the Mets and Diamondbacks had white ones. Any other teams?

The A's of the early 70s had white coach's hat's with green bills.

I had an idea awhile back for a line of hats called "Road Greys" which would be two-toned hats much like these with a grey dome and colored bill and across the front it would have the script found on each team's road jersey. Now, it seems to me that there might already be something like that since it's not exactly a revolutionary idea. Has anyone seen anything like this?

I used to have an Orioles cap that was similar to that. It had a black bill and a dark gray (almost flannel . . . in thickness and color) crown. The front had a black script "Orioles" in a generic script font with a thin orange outline about 1/8" - 1/4" from the black portion. "Baltimore" was written above the Orioles script in a plain black font (not script). I bought in about 1992, then had to retire it a few years ago after the adjustable band in the back broke.

As I think I made clear, the hat did not use the Orioles wordmark font. I suspect that if I found a Yankees hat in the same style, the script would have been exactly the same. With mine being an Orioles hat, however, it bore at least a passing resemblance to what you described.

Sounds like a style made by the Starter company in its heyday. Or the Sports Specialities script that Reebok resurrected a couple of years back.

Okay - photographic evidence:

Or, I could be completely off-base.

And before I drift too far off the topic of hand - any truth to the rumor of the Pittsburgh gray cap originally being a yellow P outlined in black?
