11 Coolest Helmets

Another interesting sidebar: originally, the helmet decal said "Steel" rather than "SteelERS". I forget the year exactly, but soon after, someone added the "ers" to "Steel", and as such, we now have the logo so known and adored by Steeler nation today.

According to Chris's site, it was 1963. The regular "steel" logo was used for one year as the primary, which was 1962. Wasn't that also when they switched from yellow shells to black?

Yes it was. Actually...the switch from yellow shells to black occurred prior to the Steelers' playoff game in that 1962 season. (IIRC, it was supposed to be a "special" thing, since I think that was also the first time the Steelers had made the playoffs in quite some time. Well...the players and fans loved that helmet so much, the Steelers haven't looked back since. Well...except for their 75th Anniversary celebration of two years ago.)

And regarding Bucco Bruce and the creamsicles...I think you'll find more than quite a few of us among the CCSLC who are quite font of that set--the colors, uniform and logo, and helmet. Why else would I have made it my (former) handle up in here?!? ^_^

*Disclaimer: I am not an authoritative expert on stuff...I just do a lot of reading and research and keep in close connect with a bunch of people who are authoritative experts on stuff. 😁

I agree with the Bucs one.

That is an awesome helmet, I wish they'd bring it back.

God yes. Another Bucco Bruce fan, glad to see it.

Just infinitely more interesting than the generic scheme and logo they've got now. And yes, before someone says Pewter isn't generic, it's nothing compared to the ol' creamsicle orange and red togs.

Mark me down as another Bucco Bruce fan. I've always loved that helmet and corresponding uniforms.

Add me to the list as well. I loved that helmet. I also loved the original uniforms. I could have done without the addition of the orange pants (OK, I hated the orange pants. There, I said it).
