OPTIMUS THREAD: APPRENTICE

Sorry, I mentioned that I would post my logo concept, but I forgot to. Well, here it is... this is what I feel we mean by mentioning the architecture extending from the wordmark. I accidentally used the North Carolina Capitol building in Raleigh instead of the General Assembly, though the General Assembly building is probably more appropriate. This will certainly be fixed in the final though. Just imagine it with a pointed roof instead of a dome. :)

The only thing with the logo is I think it's too complicated to be properly reproduced on a T-shirt, especially on what is basically two-colors.

You'd be surprised...if the colors are solid, the lines will reproduce just fine.

Sorry to interject, but I thought this would help.

Hmm... I like that. I'm sketching a logo right now. Is that an arrow in the star?

Also, what I thought of when I saw the logo-architecture-wordmark part was something like this.

It's supposed to be the state flag of North Carolina. Of course, that's dependent on us using red, white, and blue.

The bridge on the jersey is great. It's more of a WordArt kind of thing where the script itself is shaped along the architecture. For a T-shirt, I think we could pull it off without reshaping the text itself.

If it were a button-down jersey or something, then I'd say that the logo is a bit much. However, for the purpose of a T-shirt, I agree with fiasco! that it could look nice, especially with clean lines and colors.

In speaking of colors, I'm working on our possible choices now. I have a couple of votes for green... can anyone show me a particular shade of green that would look appropriate with royal blue and, presumably, white or silver?

So basically, am I correct in that these are our initial color scheme ideas?

Actually, a set I have that is 0-0-160, 0-161-0, and White looks good together. That may work for green.

I don't have images right now, but these are the possible sets that we have. I should get the images tomorrow for a final vote.

Option 1: (0-0-160), (204-0-0), (223-223-223)

Option 2: (0-0-160), (0-161-0), (223-223-223)

Option 3: (0-0-160), (245-216-50), (255-255-255)

These are the order in which I prefer them... the silver could be replaced with white in the first two, but I think silver would be more valuable against a royal blue shirt. Right now the vote is split between red and green. The gold received no votes and is only still an option if we want to do gold accents for a white design, but that could get messy.

We are also unanimous on the premise of the logo! We'll try out some different designs, but it is agreed that the chest logo should be a wordmark with some architecture extending from it. The architecture would likely be from this building.

I think it's really your decision. I prefer green but we could work with either. If no one else votes I think you should break the tie cause, well, it's your T-Shirt on the line. :D

Edit: Another example of logos meshed with wordmarks on T Shirts.

And another view of what I mentioned above.

I tried to retool my logo around the General Assembly building. I have a few of them that looked too long, much like GBM's above. It seems that the shape is with the three front-facing "pyramids," which just seems to be a bit much. Those logos can be found here and here.

This is my other one, and although I don't think it looks as good as my first as far as its credentials as a logo, this is much more accurate and just as user-friendly to fit on a shirt.

It's been amended so that the entire winning team will receive T-shirts, so yours is on the line as well. :)

I think we'll actually work with two plans; if we use my logo above, it will be Option 1 (red). If someone else has a better logo with no specific preference, I would like to move on with Option 2 (green). My logo could also use green, but I would be unable to do the North Carolina flag in the star.

So within a day, I'd like to see some other concepts unless we are in agreement on one of the existing ones. We should also talk about secondary logos (sleeve patches); I'm thinking something with "NS," "North State," or something along those lines.

EDIT: Presentation of concepts is actually in a day and a half... see my sig for further details. These are the big deadlines coming up. Although the sooner we agree on a logo, the sooner we can advance and clean up said logo, so you can submit any more logos sooner than the deadline if you'd like.

So you think the three triangles is too long even if it fits above the wordmark like on mine?

I think the new one is solid but the grid on the triangle should be both ways and I think the placement of "North State" should be changed cause it looks lost right now.

Hey I like that T-Shirts for everyone idea. Gives us more motivation!

One thing I'm not sure about is the star. I love it in theory, but in practice, it's not precisely in the middle, with SEN and TORS around it, it will make the shirt look off-centered, I think.

What about a star inside the spacing on the A rather than a large star that exudes from it?

Tomorrow I'll work on something out, maybe see about mixing together some of the ideas here in a vector format.

Ok, here's what I've come up with so far. Tried to run with the goverment building imagery, so here's a logo using the North Carolina State Capitol. It was the first building used to govern the state, read more about it here.

This is a very simple design, perhaps it could be used for the sleeve patch. More colours and ideas can be added and I'm not too worried with the font right now (it's Varsity Regular), this is just to give you an idea of what I was thinking.

I feel I need to interject again. Are you guys working in RGB? If so, you better convert to CMYK or Pantone values. Your RGB stuff won't reproduce correctly when printed.
