Brett to the Jets?

favre_jets.png

At first I was pretty turned off by the idea when rumors surfaced of Favre to New York due to the constant, non-stop, almost circus-like media coverage over the guy, and the fact that he can't seem to make up his mind if he is coming or if he's going. But after mulling it over for a while, with the realization of his days in Green Bay (barring a Rodgers injury) being all but over, the fact that Brett really does want to play, and the thought of another dreadful NYJ season with Pennington or Clemens under center, I have surprisingly warmed up to the idea of Favre playing for Gang Green.

According to the Madden Sim, Brett Favre will have the best possible season with the New York Jets out of the four team simulated. The Packers have a better record with Aaron Rodgers at the quarterback, and Favre is the difference between the Jets and Vikings making the playoffs or going home early... a huge difference with the Vikings (5-11 without, 10-6 with).

Just something fun I found... in actuality, though, he will probably be traded. Goodell is supposedly going to approve the papers on Wednesday. I also blame the Madden Curse because we all thought it was dead.

If Brett ends up in Tampa I'll wanna do to management what Jeff Garcia is doing to the starting QB job. I won't abandon the team though. Hell, if anything I'll feel more comfortable wondering what the FU*K management is smoking. It'll be just like baseball season for me :D

Great line bucfan, I'll be right by your side, but since I respect Favre enough, I'd have to get his jersey in Buccaneer red.

Last night I saw that Brett got his own ticker on ESPN... fkn ridiculous.

As a lifelong Packers fan and someone with childhood ties to both Milwaukee and Green Bay, I've always had a suspicion that Brett wasn't all that his media image made him out to be. I heard numerous "friend of a friend" stories when I was in Green Bay about Brett feeling that he had the right to do what he wanted because he was Brett Favre dammit, and who was anyone to tell him what he could and couldn't do? For years, I took those stories with a grain of salt, but now he's displaying those very same traits in front of the world. If any other player tried pulling this crap, he'd be demonized by both the media and fans. The fact that he's still able to have supporters in both camps shows what a cult-like figure he's become (not surprising since it's not uncommon to see statues of Jesus holding green & gold pom pom's "up nort"). But I think he's every bit in the same camp as Terrell Owens, or Pacman Jones or whoever the media's whipping boy is this week. Although if my experience with Warren Sapp taught me anything, it's that the latter two (and everyone else the media has made out to be a "bad guy") are really just decent people who refuse to kiss the medias ass and are forced to play for it. After all... this is the same media that told us for the better part of two decades that Brett was a humble, good-ol' boy and look what he's doing now.

Perhaps I'll be able to look back in a few years and appreciate him for what he's done on the field. But for now, he's lost every bit of respect I've accumulated for him for the past 16 years. I am now solidly on the Aaron Rodgers bandwagon and want Brett off my team and out of my home state.

And now I have nothing more to say about this mess :D

I haven't seen this anywhere. But this was in the Tampa Tribune July 27th.

"The Bucs may not be sitting out the Brett Favre trade talks after all.

Though it was believed that the Bucs and Jets had both decided to wait until Favre reported to camp to renew any trade talks with the Packers, we are now hearing of a discussion between the Bucs and Packers that supposedly took place on Saturday. And the end result may be why the Favre saga is suddenly at a standstill.

It is believed that the Bucs and Packers were close to an agreement on compensation but that the agreement fell apart sometime on Saturday. "

A rumor leaked from both a GB and Milwaukee paper is reporting a Packer offer of $20 million over 10 years for Brett to remain retired. It is also said that Brett shot it down.

This gets better every day. I spent a couple of weeks in Milwaukee recently and it's amazing. I swear they have a daily update on what the guy eats for breakfast and this entire "wanting to play" episode has just kicked the whole thing to a brand new level.

You know people don't want you around when they're willing to pay you $2 million annually for you to stay away. That is some serious "We don't want yo ass no more" money.

All of this is stuff I agree wholeheartedly with.

The couple times I've run into this Brett character, both in Tampa and during my time in Hattiesburg, MS, doing various training, this guy really came off to me as a seriously pompous jassack. I mean, it'd have been one thing if the pompousness had been left to an isolated incident, but several run-ins over about a 3-year span led me to believe otherwise. Prior to all that, I ain't have a problem with him on the field, other than seemingly every media outlet tripping over floor tiles to kiss his royal posterior and "glorify and revere" him for making the same types of "plays" that a Vince Young or a Michael Vick ,pre-dog trial, would get villainized for, and then using his "legend" status to get away with it.

(My mind keeps going back to a game the Pack played versus the Bungles in '06 I believe--the Bengals were in their orange alts with white pants--and at the end of the game, though by that point it was evident the Bengals had that game in the bag, what does Brett do? Start scrambling, runs PAST the line of scrimmage, then for some reason decides to underhand-toss the ball forward to one of his teammates. Had that been any other player, they'd have likey been ridiculed like crazy. But what was the general reaction to that play by many media outlets? they laugh it off, saying that it's just "another example of Brett's 'childish love for the game and having fun while playing it'".

WHAT THA :censored: EVA, MAYN!

Though the man's made many great plays during his career, he's also made plenty of idiotic and bonehead plays, as well (like the one mentioned above), and many have cost his team field position, points, and in some cases, "W's". It's one thing to be inexperienced and make bonehead plays, but not a damn seasoned-a$$ veteran such as this cat here. That, combined with my personal experiences with him, is why I detest and loathe, with every bone in my body, the mere mention that this guy could possibly be headed to Tampa to join up with my beloved Buccaneers. (The thought actually makes me a little queasy). If this does go through (and I seriously hope it DOESN'T), I can't even begin to fathom how I'll be able to stomach it through a whole season.

Amen brother. Favre is oe helluva QB who, even thogh I really disliked, had built up a respect for because of his success. After all of this, any respect that I once had is GONE. I dislike him even more now than I did. IMO he's the Barry Bonds of the NFL at this point. And if he does come to the black pearl (heaven forbid) my biggest fear is that he'll either make a ton of stupid decisions, or even worse, he'll refuse to play for us (because Tampa is too HOT. Fu*king :censored:  ). Then we would look as stupid as the Packers do right now.

Here's my prediction...

The Packers end up getting much less than they should for Favre.

Favre decides he'd rather stay retired after all upon being traded. Then makes it obvious that his whole "out of retirement" bull was just a bluff he was using to get the Packers to put Rodgers back on the bench, but didn't expect it to get called.

If this happens again, it'll be Jake Plummer 2.0 for my Buccaneers.

...the guy mulls retirement, Jon Gruden decides to trade for him in Tampa. Guy never played a down for the Buccaneers, chose to retire and stay retired.

...like Favre needs to do. Stay the :censored: retired. OH--but since you sent in your reinstatement papers, go ahead and go on to the Jets or back to the Falcons or go finish out your career in the Black Hole or something.

It's always fascinated me about players "refusing" to play somewhere and then try to tell me playing this game is just like any other job.

Back in the day when I was living in Atlanta, my dad was told he was being transferred to Baton Rouge, LA. At first he was hesitant and refused, but he was told he'd be out of a job if he didn't go. Why not do that for Farve?
