That was crazy to hang like that so high up with two little wires and a harness and to go around like that wow.

You aren't allowed to like it. China is communist. Way more communist than Barak Obama.

But yeah, a total "HOLY :censored:ING :censored:!" moment. Beautifully done.

Wonder how the people in Darfur liked the artistry and pageantry of these opening ceremonies?

I thought the Athens opening ceremony was better.

Also, in my mind, nothing will ever beat how they lit the torch in Barcelona.

It was actually better on the BBC broadcast because when he first got the torch they had a wider shot so you really couldn't see the harness. As such you were surprised when he was lifted up. On the NBC coverage they had an up-close shot where you could clearly see the harness and thus could tell what was coming next.

Also for those wanting to catch lots of Basketball and Soccer, if you have Directv they have two dedicated channels to those sports in addition to USA and MSNBC so you should be able to watch most of the games live if you decide to stay up alate (or get up early).

the Archer in barcelona was so F'in sweet that even Muhammad Ali himself couldn't outdo it.

I'm guessing that was a joke, right?

Just a statement.

As everyone here "ooohs" and "ahhhhs" over the ceremonies and the games, i thought a slap back to reality was needed.

Yeah, not a bad point at all. It's almost as if to say, "Hey, no sorry. We can't help you while thousands of your people are pointlessly slaughtered. But you can carry our flag if you want."

Maybe that's just my pessimistic side though.

The archer lighting the cauldron was great! You really only had one shot to do it right. Imagine the embarrassment had he missed. Atlanta's was a mess. The cauldron was quite ugly. Nagano's was much better by comparison. Heck, if this was any indication, they were going to laughed at well before the olympics

The lighting of Beijing one was great. I was wondering how they were going to light the flame given the stadium's design and how it seems the cauldron in the past two decades are elevated above the rest of the stadium. I really didn't think they were going to put a harness AND have the guy go around the stadium.

I saw, I came, I left.

I think that is a reference to the Olympic joint in Athens, not in Torino.
As it is, hooray to the United States, recording the first sweep of medals in this Olympiad!

Are we really going to black out Olympic results? Really? Come on now, y'all. :P

I guess I like the Olympics more than I thought. I mean, it's the only time when I have the TV on for a couple of hours just to watch badminton, team handball, and volleyball.

The torch lighting at the Opening Ceremonies took forever, but it was pretty cool. I haven't seen any others, so I can't really rank or compare it.

The Beach Volleyball equivalent of the Miracle on Ice just happened. Latvia beat the USA in beach volleyball.

lmao

What should it be called, the Surprise on Sand?

Same here. The Olympics are a nice alternative for a couple weeks when there's typically nothing else on but mid-season baseball and preseason football. It's something that's not regularly shown on TV...might as well watch it. Hell, I got addicted to curling during the Turino Games back in 2006.

However, I won't watch any gymnastics events because I'm a man....

Surprised that no one has bothered to bring this story up: Father of former olympian killed in Bejing

Locally, this story is receiving some attention. How is it being viewed nationally and internationally?

Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends. Sounds like something from a Rocky & Bullwinkle story arc.
