Creamer NCAA Top 25 Poll

Thanks for listing that out. Any basis for the .5, .2, etc? That's what I'm having the hardest time with on making my own formula, what relative strength each 'factor' should have.

Also, with your formula it seems that teams who get to a conference championship or go to Hawaii and potentially get an extra game could benefit from winning those games by getting an added 1+ points. Maybe it all works out in the end, you are for sure more familiar than I how it works.

The .5 is just keep things around 1 for wins and losses. A win over a .500 team would yield a game rating of 1. (1 for the win and 0 "bonus." [.500 - .5 = 0]) I could change the math and get the same results, but it makes more intuitive sense to me this way so I deal with it that way. As a note, a team can get .5 to 1.5 for a single game rating (I realize it's impossible to actually get 1.5, but in theory it's possible). I'm not sure where you get the .2 from? Are you talking about the 2 in the Power formula? It's just a weighted average. A team's win-loss record should be a better indicator with respect to how good that team is compared to the win-loss records of its opponents. The decision to give it twice the weight is arbitrary.

I have thought about teams that potentially play conference championship games, the winners get a benefit, but the losers are punished as well. It may not be fair that some teams may get more opportunities than others, but those teams do take advantage of those opportunities and I think that should count for something. Ultimately, every team plays 12 or 13 games in the regular season (plus one if they go bowling) so I don't worry too much about it.

I can do it Gary. The only hitch being that if I do, this week's poll will not be out until Friday afternoon.

that's fine, although I know epiphanic is doing the polls, I just have to get confirmation from him

I finally got around to sending my 25 in. Don't be surprised if I'm the only one that votes a certain team #1.
