It's the NFL's version of the Red Wings non-arched nameplates in the preseason.

Not to be off topic but why do the Red Wings do that?

it's a lot easier to stitch on a flat nameplate than an arched on...

especially a vertically arched one...

and i also think, though i may be incorrect, that the wings regular season uniforms don't even use a name plate, but have named stitched directly onto the jersey.

Your correct on the wings jersey. They have the stitched on nameplate with a plan font for the preseason, then when regualr season begins, they break out the arched stitched right on to jersey look. They are probably the only team to do this i think.. maybe the rangers?
