BryanSmalls 126 Posted September 10, 2008 The Mets are wearing them against the Nationals tonight. Didn't see them wearing the hats last night which would be the correct day to wear them (since it was a Tuesday when the tragic events unfolded). Then again, with the Nats in town, shouldn't both clubs wear the same stylized hats?

TBGKon 2,683 Posted September 10, 2008 True, but even though the events happened on a Tuesday, the date is usually more important when being remembered. I would assume that since the Mets are off tomorrow is the reason why they're wearing it today.
Snowcap30 4 Posted September 10, 2008 The day of the week doesn't have anything to do with it, since the days of the week change for a date year after year. The Mets are off tomorrow, September 11th. I assume the rest of the MLB will be wearing it tomorrow on the date of the tragedy.

SteveR 1 Posted September 11, 2008 I think I heard on the Nats-Mets game that all teams playing tomorrow (9/11) will wear them. The Mets and Yankees, both of whom are off, have special dispensation to wear theirs today.

w00tness 0 Posted September 11, 2008 I thought I heard on the SNY broadcast something about all teams wearing them all weekendI wouldn't mind that one bit. It's a good idea to have everyone honor the victims and wear the caps in remembrance of that day. It's really too bad that September 11th (this year) is on a Thursday, meaning very few teams are playing.
CC97 161 Posted September 11, 2008 It'll be interesting to see if the Jays wear the Canadian caps again or if they'll have a US version this time around.

CubsFanBudMan 399 Posted September 11, 2008 I'm going to have to a take the negative route as well. If they want to remember 9/11, wear the caps they wore back then... NYPD, FD etc. Something that isn't readily available for purchase in the MLB team shop. How exactly does the same cap represent July 4 and 9/11? All it says to me is that MLB took 7 years to find a way to profit off 9/11.Oh, but an unknown percentage of the sales of these caps is going to veterans, right? Or do the ones sold in September go to police and firefighters?Hollow tribute by the league, even with good intentions by the players. The flag on the side caps stopped selling so now they've got something new. "Perfect for fireworks or Ground Zero."(Wow, these leagues have upset me lately -- or maybe I'm just grumpy.)

At first I thought that was the reason for the red/white/blue hats.

jtthasportfreak 6 Posted September 11, 2008 J.J. Putz's 13th save ensured the Anaheim Angels the AL West again, but it seemed that Putz was wearing the 4july hat, amirite ?

Another hollow marketing ploy by MLB.
erlovepuck 4 Posted September 11, 2008 I third that CubsFan. The Mets had a great tradition for a few years of wearing the caps of the NYPD, FDNY, PAPD, etc. each year on 9/11 and that was much more meaningful than wearing these caps because that's what the team did in the aftermath of 9/11/01. As much as we all love uniforms to be 'uniform' it was always a nice site to see a team wearing the different caps of first responder agencies.
