Mets 2009 uniforms

Recommended Posts

Spoke with someone inside CitiField today about any cosmetic changes to the Mets suits for the 2009 season.

What I got is gonna surprise a lot of people I think.

Although black will remain a part of the Mets color scheme- there will be less emphasis on the color starting next season.

Instead look for a much more 'blue' Mets appearance for 2009 at home.

When I asked if the Mets pinstriped home uniform would continue to be sullied with that hideous black drop shadow, I was told that there is a good chance that that will not be a part of their ensemble next season.

It's the road suits however, where the most drastic change is scheduled.

Gone will be the Old English "New York" lettering, instead they will revert back to "Mets" script on the front - not only that - but in addition the gray is going to be unique to any team in MLB next year.

The gray will not be a slate gray or a bluueish gray that they currently have.

In 2009 the Mets will wear a charcoal gray road uniform with a blue Mets script, with both orange and white drop shadows for all the lettering and numerals.

Interestingly there is absolutely no black on this uniform whatsoever - and I was told that the blue/orange/white color combination jumps off this uniform with incredible success. Blue/Orange/White piping will also be on the ends of the sleeves, down the front of the jersey, and down the pant legs as well.

It is a traditional look and the Mets will have this shade of charcoal gray...although I was also told that other teams next season will also being changing their shade of gray on road uniforms too.

I have also been told that this new road uniform is already at places like Sports Authority in and around the NY metropolitan area.

I'd love to see it - and so would a lot of people on this board obviously...if anyone knows about these uniforms or has purchased one or has a pic - please post it.

Graphite?!?

If you will, yeah, I guess sort of.

Other team I confirmed today that will be revising their gray look next year are the Colorado Rockies.

I don't think you have to worry about Ryan Church being a Met much longer anyway. He wants out, doesn't like New York...the Mets will move him shortly.

Adam Rubin had a great story saying that the stuff about him not liking New York was nonsense -- pure crap from Mike Francesa.

Enjoy that Church jersey. He's a gamer!

I'm sorry...I have to be skeptical here. Until I see something from a source anywhere, I'll have to take it with lots of grains of salt. I would also be very disappointed for them to go to a graphite with a METS script rather than NEW YORK...

But black sucks. That WOULD be a plus.

I hate to say this...but all of your contacts' suggestions are absolutely wrong. "New York" is still on the roads, black is still involved...as a matter of fact, the only thing changing is the Shea/Citi patch switch (and that is laughable).

The changes you describe exactly match a Cubs fashion jersey that has appeared in and around Wrigley (and I first saw at Sports Authority) in the past month.

I had to do a double-take because at first glance it looks like an new, authentic road uni. And with the Cubs ditching the road cap... Well, the mind starts to wander.

But on closer inspection of the Cubs version (which is charcoal gray with red and blue piping down the front and sleeves and the primary logo on the left chest like the homes) it's clear that it was not authentic, including the tagging. Several player names (in blue outlines in red) were available, adding to the intrigue, but then I also saw someone on TV wearing and identical White Sox version. Both are road-looking with home graphics, as you described for the Mets.

Add to that the fact that charcoal seems to be MLB's color of choice for postseason wear (clinch shirts, sweatshirts) and I think its doubtful the Mets, Rockies, Cubs and Sox are going graphite.

Unless it's going to be a league-mandated era intended to rival that of the powder blues.
