New Jerseys = Wins?

Rams havent won a superbowl since they've changed, rockets switch after winning, niners go from dynasty to laughing stock. as much a coincidence as winning.

Yes, but the new uniforms were supposed to be for 1999. They just blew the deadline.

The Twins switched from the pullovers and red TC caps to the current look (with the M caps, though) in 1987 and won the world series.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

Not to mention...around 2000-01, the Twins dropped the "M" hat at home and brought back the "TC" and we've won 4 Central Division titles! To be honest though, I think more credit goes to Ron Gardenhire than the switching of the headgear :P

Coincidence = wins.

That's all.

Well duh, Captain Buzkill.

Everyone else, go back to having fun.

Well, if you really want to kill the buzz, consider the NHL. All 30 teams got at least new uniforms, and in some cases new logos, last year. Only one of them won the Stanley Cup :P - and that was one of the teams whose look didn't change all that much.

I wanna say in 2000 when the Astros changed to their current set they had their worst season in franchise history.

Has anyone noticed or checked into the fact that teams seem to do better after they've gotten new jerseys. Seeing the Rays win tonight made me think of it, but going through some teams over the last 15 years it seems to work out.

Utah Jazz: Switched to the mountain jerseys and make the NBA Finals.

LA Lakers: Switch to current jerseys and win the championship.

Timberwolves: Switched to the tree trim and start making the playoffs.

Cleveland Cavaliers: Switch to current and start winning.

Detroit Pistons: Switch to current and start winning championships again.

I'm a basketball fan so those are the ones I think of first.

I'm sure there are more.

I hate to say it, because I'm enjoying this thread, but I think there are other factors at play here for the teams listed:

Utah Jazz: Came within one win of Finals before changing uniforms. The Kemp-Payton Sonics (who beat them in '96) were starting to come apart. (Jeff Pearlman needs to write his next book about those teams.)

LA Lakers: Hired Phil Jackson that offseason. Could've contributed more to the championships.

Timberwolves: KG came of age.

Cleveland Cavaliers: Won the lottery and drafted some fella named James.

Detroit: I'll give you. Changing to the old red, white and blue restored that team's identity.

The Anaheim Ducks, switched it up and won the cup the same year.

The Stars got a new alternate in 1999 won the cup in them.

they actually got a new alt in 1997-1998, and lost in the conference finals that year...

made it the primary road jersey for the 1999 playoffs (after it had been the third all season long), and won the cup.

then in 2000, their first season in new home/roads, they lost in the finals and never went back in those uniforms.

Also, the Penguins have yet to win a Stanley Cup after their jersey/logo change in 1992 and the Rockets have yet to win an NBA title after their change in 1995. Ironically, since then both teams have changed back their uniforms to something similiar to their championship threads.

Cant remember but, didn't the Anaheim Angels ( L.A Angels of Anaheim now ) change their look then go on to win the world series ?

and remember in 2002, Anaheim started 6-14, their worst record out the gate but won anyway. Also, Portland switched up to the "Impact" font look along with angling the Pinwheel and made it to the 1992 NBA Finals

don't forget the titans, ravens won it all after there change

that's also incorrect. the titans have never won it all. we lost that super bowl, painfully.

But the point there is that the Titans/Oilers made it to the super bowl. Also, the Titans made a tweak this year and moved to the light blue as thier home and now they're on a winning streak.

1. Teams who think they are on the upswing will often try to update their identity to take advantage of the new success.

2. When it works, it really sticks out in our minds. The Rays, Titans, and Buccaneers are all good examples of this. When it doesn't, people don't remember the uniform change as much because nobody really pays any attention to those teams anyway, unless they're historically bad (Lions, anyone?) It's like the hot hand myth in basketball. Players who have been "hot" miss game-winners all the time, but people really only remember the times when it goes in.

While the Rays' new set hasn't been seen as awe-inspiring, judging by these boards, they do now at least look more like a major league team. The told set was unique and different, and also used the seldom-seen green, but it was also out there. Not as much as the gradient mess at their inception, but still out there. Busy cap, weird font, etc.

The Rays have been on the rise for a couple of years due to player development and some key deals, but the identity change helped, too, IMHO. Wipe the slate clean after ten years of zero. Start fresh and win 100 games and counting.

2007 Minnesota Golden Gopher football: 1-12

complete uniform change in late spring 2008...

2008 Minnesota Golden Gopher football: 5-1

I think that's more to do with their schedule than with jersey change. :P

I still don't like the Rays' uniforms. I remember I had a zinger back when it came out, and I said something along the lines of "minor league uniforms for a minor league team. :P" I guess they proved some folks wrong.
