I parused through all the topics and going slightly off-topic here, no one's Kavetching about the Rays logo... I wonder why :suspect:

The Ducks changed dramatically, you bitched, they started to win

The Red Wings moved their "A's" & "C's", you cried sacriledge, they started to win

The Rays look plainer than a can of Ralphs Supermarket beer from the 80's, they started to win

The Thunder decide to... oh god, they're still ugly

No one complained about the Rays logo? You didn't look too hard, did you?

The Rays' logo is plain, but at least it's pretty clean. Now if only we could get "Tampa Bay" on the roadies again.

I would have to agree with him. How has Bud Selig been bad for baseball? Sure he's had some faults, but under his watch baseball has set numerous attendance and revenur records, implemented the wild card and interleague play, reformatted the divisions, successfully expanded into 4 cities (2 of which have won World Championships, 3 have reached the series, and the 4th is one win away from also accomplishing that feat), implemented revenue sharing, worked out very profitable TV contracts, and not to mention cleaned up the doping issue in the game. Under Selig's tenure baseball has become a money-making machine and reached it's height in popularity. So please, what exactly is your problem with him?

I think you answered part of your question with the bit I formatted above. Let's not forget this is also the Bud Selig who was going to paint the bases yellow and slap a Spiderman 2 logo on them. I agree that Bud has been good for baseball in most senses. But he often skirts the line with the game's traditional roots (Interleague, unbalanced divisional schedule, etc)

also, one big difference in past years that changed over after the 2003 world series is the iron-on, felt-like patches that began with the 2004 model. i know this is probably a result of the heavier, more patch-like logos being more prone to falling off, but it makes them a little cheaper, no?

i always used to like the condensed versions of the sleeve patches they used to use for the hats (see 1998 and 2000 for specific good uses).

nevertheless, this is a big collection item of mine. i have at least one hat from every world series (sans the 96 and 99 braves/yankees series. those don't exist as far as i'm concerned. i'm a mets fan. can you blame me?). i get the hat of the team i'm rooting for (or both, in rare cases i like both teams like in '07). i'm eagerly awaiting my tampa bay rays hat!

(waiting for the inevitable post asking when the Phillies changed their caps to Orange...)

So when did the Phillies ... sorry, can't do it.

Had the same reaction, except my thinking was more along the lines of, "Hmmm, so an orange cap could look good, if the Marlins really are switching to black and orange in 2011."

I'll be interested in seeing a photo of the Rays cap with the ginormous WS logo on the side. Thing's so big, I almost worry that it will cause neck injury from the lopsided weight of the caps.

The WS logo definitely looks better on the Rays cap and the Phils alt than it does on the red cap.
