The_Admiral
I respect the Glazers' reason for mothballing the creamsicle jerseys. The logo is bad, the teams were bad, the colors are bad. If there's any jersey to never revive, it's probably that one. It connotes failure. Other teams played like crap in a variety of uniforms good and bad, but I, like surely many, see Bucco Bruce and the creamsicle jerseys and don't think "oh, what a kitschy and unique throwback!", I just think "crappy football."The Lions' addition of black falls along the same lines, but not as drastic. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
Gothamite
See, I look at the Lions' uniforms and I think "somebody tried to make it look like a fresh start but couldn't actually improve the team and thought we wouldn't notice." Not exactly the same thing. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog.
The_Admiral
Your assessment is better, yes. Black outlines = Malibu Stacy's new hat.But yeah, leave the old Bucs stuff in the past where it belongs. Don't get me wrong, I like throwbacks in certain cases, but not in football. Restrict them to the last preseason game or the Thanksgiving game. Too much throwingback dilutes the branding. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
oddball
I think Thanksgiving weekend EVERY team should wear a throwback of some sort. Even if Carolina wears a NC State or Duke, throwback, I'd be cool with that. Just do something special for that weekend.
The_Admiral
No. Throwbacks for teams that are not your own is another pet peeve. The NBA is the worst with this.Do you kind of see what I'm getting at, though, that the appearances are too few in football to dilute the image with throwbacks? The ugly New York Titans jerseys are the worst case. That's one-fourth of the home schedule where the Jets are not the Jets, now with Jets awareness at an all-time high. Bad marketing. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Cujo
Bucco Bruce lives! Not that I'm a big fan of the uniforms, but they will definitely bring back comical Suckaneer memories of the Vinny Testaverde/Sam Wyche days when they bust out with the creamsicle unis next year. JetsLuvver
The Cowboys stupid double star throwback was worn by a winless expansion team, yet everyone seems to love them. At least the orange Bucs had a couple of good seasons.

With a video game screen name no less.I'm with the poster who brought up Thanksgiving weekend. Put 'em all out there in a condensed period of time. Throwback lovers (myself included) will get their fill. Haters of the whole thing can get it out of their system in quick fashion. I'm much more opposed to alts than throwbacks anyway. rmackman
Bucs Plan Ring Of Honor, Will Wear Orange In '09Published: October 16, 2008Fans clamoring for a Tampa Bay Buccaneers Ring of Honor are about to get their wish. The Bucs plan to introduce a Ring of Honor for the franchise next year as part of a 30th anniversary celebration of the 1979 Bucs, who went 10-6 and advanced to within one victory of a Super Bowl berth in only their fourth NFL season. The organization also intends to play at least one game during the 2009 season wearing Tampa Bay's throwback orange jerseys, according to an NFL source. The absence of a Ring of Honor, which would recognize the team's greatest players and coaches and others, has been a hot-button topic for Bucs supporters intent on honoring 33 years of tradition. The 1979 team, coached by the late John McKay, was led by quarterback Doug Williams and defensive end Lee Roy Selmon, the only Bucs player in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. After beating Kansas City 3-0 in a torrential downpour to win the NFC Central division title and earn the franchise's inaugural playoff spot, the '79 Bucs defeated Philadelphia 24-17 before suffering a 9-0 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the conference championship game. The Titans and Bucs are doing it...let's everyone wind the clock back to 1993! WOOHOO! "Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be eaten. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle. When the sun comes up, you'd better be running." - Unknown | Check out my articles on jerseys at Bacon Sports
FiddySicks
I think half of the love I have for the Bucs old unis was because for such a long time throwback gear was damn near IMPOSSIBLE to find. It seemed that when they made the shift to the current set (which is the best in the NFL) they not only burned all of the old unis, but as well attempted to burn all of the memories of them as well. I looked for YEARS trying to find a throwback with no luck. Then I found them but they cost an arm and a leg. Then Reebok came out with the reasonably priced Selmon/Williams/Nickerson/hopefully soon an Alstott throwbacks and by that time I absolutely loved them. I picked up a Selmon throwback, and plan to soon get a Nickerson throwback, but even so they're not the same. The striping is off and the orange is much too dark. If the throwbacks they use next season actually are that BRIGHT highlighter style orange they actually used, then I'll be the happiest person west of the Mississippi. myartsaywhat
I think last Sundays game with the Bucs and Seahawks would have been a great time for both teams to bring back throwbacks as the 1976 teams play each other. Now, as I understand it a throwback has to be retired for 10 years before brought back, so the 'Hawks have a while.

illwauk
Weird how conservative the creamsicle unis look now when they were arguably the most ambitious look the NFL had (til the Broncos in 97). They bring back great memories of the Packers having two guaranteed victories every year That said... it'll be nice to see them back. I've considered droppin' some of my hard earned cash on a Doug Williams jersey more than a few times.
