I know this could be a lighting issue, but I want to say the helmet stripe looks right and the jersey and facemask look a bit pale.

Still looks great, though.

Meh...they're alright. But the orange is a bit too pale for me. I would've prefered them using the dark orange jerseys from the late 70's or the bright, metallic-looking ones (at least that's how I'd describe them) from the 90s.

Beautiful........Exactly what I thought. They even talked about how the orange became darker AFTER the 76 year and wanted to bring back the original orange from 1976. Its a light yellow-orange color. Lighter than the orange they had during the Doug Williams, Ricky Bell era.

The guy doing the intro said they went to extraordinary lengths to get the exact look of the original 1976 jerseys. Maybe the mismatching stripe on the helmet vs. the jersey was just a defect from '76 they deliberately replicated.

I do notice the facemask color matches the jersey spot on, though.

*fails to understand why they would want to look exactly like they did in 1976*

It was a unique enough uniform that a throwback needs to be happen, but why go back to the year when your team didn't win a game? Throwback to the Doug Williams days when the team wasn't half-bad.

The facemasks and jerseys WERE that pale. I think that's why they darken the orange in later years. As a kid I loved that shade of orange from 76 but they never worn them. I specificlly wrote a letter to the team back then to ask why they never wore the orange jerseys, They replyed that fans setting high in the stands could not see the numbers clearly so they "redesigned" the jerseys but they did not say exactly "how" they redesigned them. My guess is they did intentionly darken the orange slightly.

I did not realize they were this pale early on. I'd have preferred to see the early 1990s version, but this is nice too.

I'm glad they went to great lengths to get the jerseys right. Facemask, even.

But where in the hell did those sock stripes come from?

I know for a fact the Buccs wore striped white socks back in those days...never have I EVER seen striped orange socks. Wtf?

Absolutely beautiful. I'll for sure be picking up more than one of these, so happy the day has finally cme where the Glazers decidedto actually acknowledge the past.

But I swear if any serious consideration comes from the garbage "Dey shuld bring deez bak full tyme!!1!Eleven!!" talk that always comes with thowbacks, I don't think my manhood will allow me to continue being a Bucs Fan.

Well, these are pretty awful, but as a Bears fan, I hope they play significantly better than the second-worst team in the history of football when they wear these against the Packers.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

I, too, will be breaking my personal "no buying any more jerseys" rule for this.

Bucco Bruce returns as Buccaneers introduce throwback unis

By Daniel Wallace

July 31, 2009

They're back.

The Buccaneers unveiled the result of a painstaking process of replicating their vintage orange, white and red uniforms when they showcased their throwbacks this morning at One Buc Place.

Linebacker Barrett Ruud, receiver Antonio Bryant, defensive end Gaines Adams and running back Earnest Graham served as models, each expressing excitement to wear the uniforms on Nov. 8 against the Packers.

It's a bit of a juxtaposition for the franchise, which largely unsuccessful during its two decades wearing the original uniforms. But the current players appear to have an appreciation for the feats accomplished wearing old orange and are eager to play the game.

"I've been preparing for this, I have the mouthpiece, I have the cleats. . . I've got a lot of things," Bryant said.

Graham said: "I definitely remember watching some of the guys I played with, Derrick Brooks and Mike Alstott, when football was really influential to me. . . I get to live it a little bit."

Ruud said: "I think Mike Alstott and Derrick (Brooks) were the only ones (I know) that wore them. I'm real excited. I've never played in a throwback game. I think they look cool and it's going to be fun."

The process of settling on the final version of the uniform was complicated, co-chairman Ed Glazer said. The first several versions of jerseys that came from the league were not the desired shade of orange, requiring much fine tuning.

"When people think of the orange jerseys, they think of just one color," Glazer said. "What we realized is that from 1976 to 1997, the jerseys changed dramatically. As soon as 1977, the jerseys started changing and getting darker. Things were changing rapidly."

"If things have gone wrong, I'm talking to myself, and you've got a wet towel wrapped around your head."

Apparently they did wear those socks when they wore the orange jerseys, according to this team pic. But of course no one really got to see them since they only wore them once during the preseason.

The socks are SPECTACULAR!!

And I appreciate the attempt to get the numbers and sleeve stripes to co-exist below the shoulder. So many teams do throwbacks with the numbers up on the shoulder (Vikings!) and call it accurate.
