BB61
From the ArenaFan message boards:A very good source just called me to let me know that it looks like only 6 teams are trying real hard to keep the league alive. Tomorrow the owners meet for what may be a final vote on what is going to happen to the league. There is a very good chance the league will fold as of tomorrow. No matter what happens, it looks like four teams will close shop no matter what. There's also a chance that the league may take a step back.... close operations for the 2009 season to try to regroup and comeback for 2010. The bottom line is the league has been losing money and the owners are tired of it. Platinum is out of the picture. Black Friday may be actually be December 5, 2008.This would suck. A lot. Drew22
For real. It's going to be difficult for the Wornell/Read combo to win the UAFL if there is no AFL. Eagles/Heels/Dawgs/Falcons/Hawks

I'll be making an announcment once we know where the AFL is going and if, indeed, it goes.

rams80
What would happen to af2?All indications at the moment are that there will be a season there. (So get your Peoria Pirates tickets now!) They have a schedule and are much healthier financially than the mother league at the moment (apparently). Whether or not the af2 gets "renamed" or some very late additions remains to be seen. (Sorry, but in the pre-Rush days, I split my loyalties between the Rampage, Mustangs, and Barnstormers.) Of course, the ideal situation here would involve the AFL not folding, but you get the feeling they've been covering up incompetence with smoke and mirrors for a long time now. And in a case like that, eventually, one of the idiots running the show forgets to refill the smoke machine. HedleyLamarr
The league probably lasted a lot longer than most folks would have thought. The league was excellent for fans, as they got a lot closer to the action and players than the "Big 4" leagues. The prices were really cheap, too. NJTank
Wow whats happening to the AFL?A few years ago they seemed on the verge of becoming a fifth major league now they are dying? www.sportsecyclopedia.com For the best in sports history go to the Sports E-Cyclopedia at http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com
Mac the Knife
I hate to say "I told you so," but... I told you so. The AFL's been on a really, really flimsy foundation for years now. The handwriting was on the wall as early as eight years ago. Franchise stability is an indicator with any league that's been around more than a decade - if there are stable franchises that don't move, then people are making money. If there's franchise free agency (Albany to Indianapolis, Buffalo to Columbus, Iowa to New York, Raleigh to Charlotte, etc., etc., etc.), there's serious trouble underneath those moves. Is the AFL dead? Something tells me no, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a :censored:load of teams 'suspend operations' for 2009. If they go dark (suspend operations as a league) for 2009 though, they're done.
