Seahawks from 2002. Fans voted for the blue version instead.

fans = not too smart.

As nice as that Seahawks silver helmet is, it would have looked terrible on a uniform that didn't include any silver anywhere else.

which is why the uniform should have included silver pants rather than white.

The Seahawks got it right. They have the perfect uniform for a team in the PNW. The only thing I'd change is the white pants - it should be blue pants 100% of the time. Every pic I see of the few games where they have gone blue on white and white on blue just confirm this even more for me.

IMO, of course.

I couldn't agree more. The white pants look terribly out of place.

And I, of course, couldn't disagree more. IMO monochrome always looks like small-time high school. It looks slightly better when there's a lighter helmet (like the saints sometimes), but the Seahawks picked a fairly dull color, and then decided to wear it from head to toe... or at least head to knee. Bad.

The current home jersey and helmet with white pants? Better.

The current home jersey with silver helmet and pants? Much much better.

I know for a fact that the Falcons were weighing the option of wearing a red helmet when they went to the current set in 2002. When I was a training camp intern in '07, showed me a book that had the proposed designs from the NFL. It had photos and drawings of logos, mockups of uniforms, and some photos of samples of uniforms. I saw some of the early versions of the current logo. The mockups showed what the logo would look like on both a red helmet and a black helmet. Thankfully, they went with the black helmet.

Actually, the current black jersey (which was supposed to be the primary) with a red helmet would look awesome. That is the Falcon's original combo... red/black/white... before they switched to a red jersey and later added silver pants. That late 60's uni was a classic.

Perhaps, but that's besides the point. The uniform, as it was presented, would have looked terrible with the silver helmet. Given what the uniforms looked like, the fans/team made the right choice by going with the blue helmet.

Over the wsummer it was pointed out that someone on eBay was selling a neon green Seahawks helmet. It wasn't a prototype, just a mock up. After some digging, I found out that there are a lot and I do mean a lot of people who do redesigns of helmets. In fact, its quite a hobby. As such I've seen that Seahawks helmet, and a Montreal machine helmet in navy with a maroon-colored face mask. If you remember, the Machine had a maroon helmet and navy (along with orange and grey) were accent colors. No doubt there are or will be a ton of "reverse" helmets on eBay.

Anyway, if you were doing a "reverse" helmet, which one would you choose to do?

Here are mine:

Panthers: logo on black metallic shell. Don't forget the Falcons, when they switched in '90 went to a black logo outlined thinly in white on a black shell (the logo today has more red and more white.)

Jaguars: Metallic Gold

Bengals: Black, of course

Patriots: Red or Navy

Eagles: Metallic silver w/ green facemask

Seahawks: Neon Green (which would be accompanied by a neon green jersey) - to be worn only for a special game.

Rams: Midnight blue on royal w/rams horn outlined in gold

Frankfurt Galaxy: Orange (just thought I'd throw that in there)

Arizona: Copper w/ black facemask

Atlanta: Metallic red

Oakland: Black of course

Denver: metallic orange

Amd I am in complete agreement with you here. Monochrome football sets = work of the devil.

I don't mind the white pants with the blue jersey, but I agree that their shade of blue is the most unique element of their identity and should be emphasized.

SIDENOTE: anyone know if the Seahawks "pacific blue" is the same one worn by the Chargers in the 60s?

The Seahawks using white pants with the blue jerseys are what the uniforms were designed to look like at home. If you look at their uniform unveiling the all blue or all white was not an option they showed. It was blue over white and white over blue and to me those are their 2 best looks. The white over blue being 1 of the best in the league IMO.I remember seeing them wear the blue over white in their 1st preseason game at home in the new unis and thinking they loked great but I guess there was a problem with the white pants and the next home game they wore all blue and we never really saw blue over white again except on the road at Jax to open the season a few years back. The only reason they did it then was because of the heat and they played bad and we've never seen it since. What a shame, a crying shame.

BTW the Seahawks did have a silver pants option but not for the road unis just the home unis. here was the home option.

and here was the road option

If you notice also the road jerseys sleeves were a royal or darker blue than the final product which ended up being Seahawk Blue. I ordered a road jersey from NFL Shop the first season and was told all the replica's had the darker color sleeves and I could'nt get one with the Seahawk Blue sleeves.

I actually like those concepts better than the all-blue scuba suits that the Seahags wear now!
