the_cynic
Everytime I walk into Blockbuster I see the "House of the Dead" movie and for some reason I want to see it. So can anyone tell me what they thought of that movie if they've seen it? If it's anything like that recent Rob Zombie crap then I don't want to see it. House of 1000 Corpses was one of the better mainstream horor flicks that's come out in the last five years...after Cabin Fever and May, of course.House of the Dead was, I believe, based on a video game. Those rarely turn out well.Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead are still the greatest of all time.
the_cynic
Well Rob's film was more than I can handle. I think a great example of a great horror movie is "The Shining". So tell me, was "House of the Dead" good or not?Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead are still the greatest of all time. When were these released? What were they about? Were they any good? hrivnak
"Dawn of the Dead" came out in 1978 and is widely recognized as the epitome of zombie flicks and one of the best horror movies. There's actually a remake of it coming out in the next month or so.My favorite horror movie is "Stragglers," but that's probably just because I'm in it. Braden
I work at a Blockbuster Video (been working there for 2 years now), have seen the movie (well... turned it off halfway), and can tell you that you'd be wasting your time watching this movie. It is like the cheesy piece of crap Ron Zombie managed to pull out of his ass that you're thinking of. House of 1000 Corpses was one of the better mainstream horor flicks that's come out in the last five years...after Cabin Fever and May, of course. Silverbacks... please PLEASE tell me that was just a silly joke... Cabin Fever was so awful I found it to be more of a comedy. And May has collected dust on our New Release wall cause NOBODY HAS RENTED IT! Honest! As a matter of fact, to be honest, all of the recent ones suck. The only ones that I've heard DECENT reviews from is Wrong Turn, Dreamcather & Cold Creek Manor (that came out a week and a half ago)If you want to be patient, Texas Chainsaw Massacre comes out on the 30th. Better off waiting for that. So far a few people have asked for it and it actually seems like a good movie from the trailer.Hrivnak, there's the truth.Have a nice day

hrivnak
I love 28 Days Later... I think it is a masterpiece quite frankly, between the way it was shot (there's some beautiful shots in this film) and the storyline. The only thing to me is that it was marketed wrong. It's not really a scary movie at all. It's a great movie, but not a scary one. Plus, amazingly, it was filmed on digital video, with a mid-range (prosumer) camera --- the same camera I own, in fact -- the Canon XL-1.
Lee.
First off, no joke. I loved 1000 Corpses, because I could take it for what it was- an homage to the flicks of the 70s. It was SUPPOSED to be cheese. It didn't try to raise the bar, it didn't try to do anything new, it went for the throat and the funnybone. Plus the gal who played Baby was choice. Reeeeeealll choice.I thought Cabin Fever, for a first-time filmmaker, was pretty cool...good premise, none of the lead characters survive, blood galore. it didn't keep me up nights, but no horror movie does. And just because May is sitting on your shelf doesn't mean it isn't any good, it just means no one has heard of it.I have never judged the quality of a movie by its popularity at Blockbuster. Any company that goes out of its way to stock only Pan & Scan or Modified Aspect Ratio (MAR) films rather than widescreen, OAR (Original Aspect Ratio) ones is highly suspect. Dreamcatcher got good reviews? By who? That movie stunk on ice, even Jason Lee couldn't save it. Wrong Turn...if there's one thing I've learned, never watch a movie with Eliza Dushku in it. Cold Creek Manor I haven't seen, but then again, I wasn't planning on it either. These are opinions. My own. It is also my opinion that working at Blockbuster and being an authority on movies are not always synonymous (based on my own BB experiences, not you in particular, I don't even know you). I'm a DVD geek, plain and simple, and when I see a little movie that I held no expectations for but ends up delighting the plop outta me, I'm gonna tell the world. May was a cool, low budget little movie. Audition (Japanese flick w/subtitles, check it out if you don't mind reading your movies) blew me away. And like I said above bs, House of the Dead was based on a video game, and those rarely turn out well. I didn't need to see it. After Wing Commander, Double Dragon, Street Fighter and Mario Brothers, the only thing that could make me see a video game-turned-movie is Milla Jovavich in a short skirt.***edit*** and 28 days later was the bomb, yo. the_cynic
Now if you talking about a great horror flick, go see Dawn of the Dead. I saw that on Friday night and I walked out of there floored, shocked, and just speechless. It had to be the best horror movie I've seen in years. nitroseed
Cabin Fever. I didn't see it, but this is basically how it was described to me, which is all I needed to hear to keep me from seeing it: All of these people in the movie are deathly afraid to drink after each other, but then decide it's okay to start having sex with each other. Yeah, that's much safer... I did, however, see the new Dawn of the Dead, and I was highly entertained. I concur that it's the best horror flick to come out in a LONG time. I would recommend it to all of you. Go see it now!
Roger Clemente
I usually see a horror movie once every two years. And tonight I saw Dawn of the Dead. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. Very good movie.--Roger "Time?" Clemente.
Sterling84
Four for four.Dawn of the Dead is awesome. Well not awesome, but surprisingly good.Entertaining, scary. Good good good. And I actually saw it in a theatre about 2 miles from where it was "set" in southern Milwaukee so hearing them issue radio warnings for "all of Waukesha County, southern Milwaukee County" was intense. Plus they said there was no hope for Racine County.......which if you lived here is not only true but really funny. They also mentioned that "Miller Park is no longer a safe zone. Repeat, the stadium is no longer safe."Ain't that the truth.
