BaltimoreFan
Orioles trade Garrett Olson and minor leaguer for Felix PieInteresting trade. Seems to be a trade for two prospects that never quite panned out. Maybe both can succeed with a change in scenery. Seems a little strange from the O's perspective. The rotation is a mess right now, while the outfield was one of the few strengths. This trade would probably have made more sense if it was for an infielder. I do know that a Markakis, Jones, and Pie outfield would be one of the best defensive outfields in the league. Any Cubs fans here have any insight on Pie? I'll say Olson seemed to have a talent, but couldn't bring it to the majors. He seemed unable to overcome his nerves. I say that because he was know for great control in the minors, but had zero control in the majors. I think a change of scenery may do him some good. Also, this trade was rumored earlier to be part of the Jake Peavy deal. So it may be possible the Cubs are making another run at Peavy. Olson is from Southern California. Anyways, I'll always remember Jeff Kent for his scuffle with Baroid, the time he "washed his truck", and being the last MLB player to truly rock the porn-stache. Gary
Tigers sign Brandon Lyon to a contract. Can't really say it's a good signing, if he stays on as a reliever he will be good, but give him the closer role and he will blow it. So if i'm the Tigers I will want to keep him in the bullpen. Pie is going to be good and Olson was just not in the O's long term plans. However, if this deal helps the Cubbies turn a bigger Jake Peavy deal, I'm not going to like it...lol. BaltimoreFan
Olson was just not in the O's long term plans.I wouldn't say that. For a while he was. But given his struggles in the majors and the depth of pitchers in the minors, I think they decided to take the "risk" of this deal. If the O's weren't so deep at pitcher, this deal probably wouldn't have been made.

Cujo
Seattle Mariners RP Aaron Heilman (formerly of the Mets) has been traded to the Chicago Cubs for IF Ronny Cedeno and LHP Garrett Olson, who was just acquired last week for Felix Pie.I don't know if I really understand why the Cubs made this deal. Wasn't Chicago supposed to use Olson as a part of whatever deal brings Peavy to town? Instead, they use him to get that never-was/Mets reject, Heilman.
