2010 MLB Realignment

Since the NL already has 16 teams, why not do this:

NL East:

-Phillies

-Mets

-Pirates

-Nationals

NL North:

-Brewers

-Cubs

-Cardinals

-Reds

NL South:

-Astros

-Braves

-Marlins

-Rockies

NL West:

-Dodgers

-Giants

-Diamondbacks

-Padres

The AL gets two expansion franchises to equal the NL.

AL East:

-Red Sox

-Yankees

-Blue Jays

-Orioles

AL North:

-Twins

-Tigers

-Indians

-White Sox

AL South:

-Rangers

-Rays

-Royals

-Memphis MLB

AL West:

-A's

-Mariners

-Angels

-Portland MLB

Why Memphis and Portland? Well, these are two very well known areas that don't have a team and they also provide in the way of the plan. Memphis is close to the area so Texas, Tampa and Kansas City won't have to travel far. Same with Portland.

Miami and Denver in the same division. Seriously.

And if we are talking about 2010 then why do y'all say "MIAMI" Marlins. Thats not until 2012.

*starts "take their water" chant*

Gosh...if BBTV ever needed a thread as an object lesson as to why realignment threads are bad. This bad boy should be locked and stickied as a warning to all.

If I were realigning the National League, it would make more sense to move the Rockies to the NL North with the Cubs, Cardinals, and Brewers. As a result, the Astros and Reds would move to the newly-formed NL South with the Braves and Marlins, who would be moved over from the NL East, where the Pirates would be moved to, joining the Mets, Phillies, and Nationals. The NL West would be unchanged with the Dodgers, Giants, Padres, and D-Backs.

Better move the Indians to the Poor Schmucks, team officials have already said that there will be a cut in payroll for next year.

I'll worry about that next year. This scenario fluctuates based on the 14th - 16th highest team salary for said year.

AL East

Boston Red Sox

Baltimore Orioles

New York Yankees

Toronto Blue Jays

AL North

Chicago White Sox

Detroit Tigers

Minnesota Twins

Cleveland Indians

AL West

Los Angeles Angels

Portland Beavers

Oakland Athletics

Seattle Mariners

AL South

Colorado Rockies

Kansas City Royals

Tampa Bay Rays

Texas Rangers

Very simple switch. Move Baltimore back to the east, cause they were in the south. Move the Rockies to the south. And move the Indians to the North. Now at least travel costs make more sense.

The Rockies would seem weird in the AL and the Brewers where AL so switching them back would be for the best.

I'm from Iowa and think that the people here deserve a pro team, because if we won the championship we wouldn't wreck the city like LA. So good job on that part.

and you would know this from experience?

Because there's nobody to wreck the city with?

Because in Iowa, we all respect each other and will celebrate in an orderly fashion instead of Boston or New York or Los Angeles leaving their cities in ruins after a World Series win.

Yet 10s of millions of people choose to live in the Boston, NY, or LA metro areas. Those places just might have something to offer that Iowa doesn't...

Those problems are caused by probably less than 1/2 of 1% of all fans. If you have 10million fans, there's going to be a couple of knuckleheads. In Iowa's case, if there's one thousand people, there's bound to be some knuckleheads too. I'm sure some cows would get tipped over, or a barn would get torched if the Iowa Oaks won the World Series. It's not an indictment on the good people of Iowa.

Why does realignment bother people? I mean if they're keeping it in one thread, I think it's fine. It let's graphically challenged people get creative in other ways.

I love discussing realignment, but agree it should all be under one thread and one thread only. And probably belongs in the Sports in General forum. But for those who hate it so much, they could simply not read the thread. I hate Obama, but I'm not clamoring for the Obama Nation thread to be closed because I don't like him.
