Baltimore Ravens Concept

Seeing as the Ravens are a win away from the Super Bowl, I've finally gathered the gumption to put together the uniforms based on my updated Baltimore Ravens logo. I got some great feedback on my original concept (http://i550.photobucket.com/albums/ii412/l...er/IMG_2735.jpg and http://i550.photobucket.com/albums/ii412/l...er/IMG_2747.jpg ). Based on that, I developed a new logo. Now, I've got the uniforms to match!

Doing away with that ghastly number font was high on the list of priorities, and I also added a lot of gold to the uniforms. But the crowning (I hope) touch was the logo.

Primary Logo:

Secondary Logo:

Thanks for all the feedback. Wow, nice job on the vector, epper.

Throwback and TalktoChuck, I know what you mean about the black, but... well, how many blue lions do you see? Or navy and orange horses? And I wanted to give them some sort of individual look. Purple is an exceedingly rare color in sports (with good reason, for the most part), and I wanted to make it the "Ravens' color".

I'd love some ideas on what to do next. If anyone has any critiques for the other teams I've done, they're all right here:

I love the Primary as well.

Did you mean to have a "B" in the wing, on the left? Because that's pretty cool.

You have a lot of talent, you need to get yourself some Illustrator! Or maybe try inkscape or something, a vector program. I have always been a pretty good drawer when it comes to logos and stuff, and that translated well to Illustrator, so you may want to try out your hand at that. You will probably be good. I still draw out a lot of my logos before vectorizing, for example the logo in my signature I drew out in math class or something. But if you like drawing your concepts, then, hey, I'm not gonna stop you, because you are good at it, and this concept looks especially nice. I would get rid of the sock striping.

I hate the Broncos uniforms, maybe you should try them.

All right, Denver Broncos it is! Thanks so much for all the helpful comments; this is what helps me improve the most.

elliott: thanks for the compliment. I'm a high school freshman without a job, so while I did download Inkscape I just didn't really find it satisfactory. I guess I just kind of like the...homeliness of drawing it. I'd love to someday get real editing software, but until then I'm plenty happy to do my work with markers! By the way, wonderful job on your Scottsdale Salamanders concept; second place is really excellent, and that was one beautiful concept!

My rationale on the sock striping is that I love the continuity it provides, especially on the road uniform. There's something beautiful about having identical striping all the way through; it just looks so consistent.

If anyone has any ideas they'd love to share on the Broncos' unis and logos, go ahead and post them and I'll keep them in mind. Thanks!

The bird looks like something you'd see on a high school helmet, not on a pro football franchise. Then again, the style of a very angular design doesn't fit a team with a bird name? Why? It takes grace to fly and the logo looks very clunky. It looks like it was chipped out of stone and that to me does not say, "bird" or flying.

Being a die hard broncos fan, I'd say a return to the royalish blue and an orange home uni. As for the design, I got nothing.

logocruncher, it's been nice to watch this concept develop. I really like what you came up with. Like I said in the other thread, this is a simple--but classic--look. It fits Baltimore and their football tradition much better than the Ravens' current mid-90's monstrosities. The colors are great and well-incorporated. I think there is still something to be said for emphasis on black (if anyone should use black, it's the Ravens), but I must admit all the purple would look sharp on the field.

The bird looks like something you'd see on a high school helmet, not on a pro football franchise. Then again, the style of a very angular design doesn't fit a team with a bird name? Why? After seeing epper's render of the logo, I agree there are some places with some weird lines and angles. But in general, I like it because it doesn't fit the mold of the other NFL logos--too many of them recently are over-skewed and overloaded with swooshing lines that I suppose are supposed to invoke speed or aggression or something. Think of the Falcons, Eagles, Panthers, Broncos, Patriots, etc. What you have created is a more accurate stance for the bird. To me, it looks like he's hovering over something and looking down at it, which is pretty cool and would be a nice change for the NFL. It still needs touching up, but it's good and it's really working with the rest of the uni.
