The_Admiral Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 The Braves beat Panama, wow. Scoring 11 runs too.Wait, Panama's best player is Carlos Lee. Carry on then. From what I heard, they were running a little bit hot tonight, like, they could barely see the road from the heat coming off of it. They'll struggle early on, but when they get it together, they should really have an offensive eruption. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
Breakwood Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 We're underway in Tokyo!Game 1: R H EChina 0 5 2Japan 4 5 0Not a very good game for Japan's Major Leaguers. Ichiro goes 0 for 5, Iwamura went 0 for 4 and Jojima went 0 for 3 with a walk.

TFoA Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Considering that they beat China by 14 or so runs last time around, I heard that the Japanese are pretty disappointed with the win. The fact that China tied Japan in hits is a moral victory in itself.

friarcanuck Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Security....or Crowd Management as they call it there to sound less "scary". Basically I stand at Gate 11 all game checking out the cute girls that walk in, and telling people that they can't go out to smoke. Sadly I don't get to watch much of the game, oh well.Good. I wouldn't want to be kicked out of Rogers Centre by a fellow CC Community member this summer for being too "rowdy". After going to about 75-80% of the games with my Toronto Star Season Pass, I don't understand why most people get thrown out for being "rowdy". I understand if they bring in their own alcohol, but most times it was just people having fun.I kicked my own fair share of people out for "just having fun"... swearing will get you a warning, repeated swearing after warning will get you kicked out; being excessively drunk will get you kicked out; passing off a beer to someone without ID will get you arrested and kicked out; attempting to buy a beer after I've "cut you off" for the night will get you kicked out.One that was out of our hands is when a player, coach or umpire complained -- and it happened quite often. It's true. Most people get kicked out for alcohol related problems. Usually its us saving our own ass, since technically it's illegal to allow a person get drunk on our property. Same with underage drinking. We get liquor inspectors every game noting our operations.Obviously sometimes it seems unfair...but I swear we're not trying to be :censored:s about it. We finally lost our liquor license last year for the first time ever. So 2 games will be dry at the beginning of the season.I have sympathy for business that that sell alcohol, because they usually have to babysit the people that go overboard. I don't agree with Ontario liquor laws made up by teetotallers almost 100 years ago, but that's another discussion.Have I ever told you guys how awesome my brother is? My birthday was today and he comes home from work and shows off two HSBC club tix for Saturday's game. SWEET!
Breakwood Posted March 6, 2009 Author Posted March 6, 2009 Oakland (SS) beat South Africa 6-1That's terrible.South Africa is easily the worst team in the World Baseball Classic. At least Italy and the Netherlands have professional leagues. How South Africa is in the tournament while countries like Panama and Nicaragua who actually have a history of playing the sport is a mystery to me. Hopefully for the next tournament there will be a qualifying system so that any country that is part of the IBAF can try to qualify. Perhaps a system like in rugby would work. Where the teams that qualify for the second round get to qualify for the next tournament, and the teams that don't make the 2nd round can play qualifiers against the other nations.
TBGKon Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 The Jays were the only team to beat Team USA, saw the end of the game myself.
