Stampman Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Sometimes this works, sometimes it blows up in the GM's face.Still kind of odd in a way--but then it usually is when this happens. You could actually have a pool for which coach of a probably playoff bound team that fires its coach late in the season. Comic Sans walks into a bar, and the bartender says, "Sorry, we don't serve your type here."
habsfan1 Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I'm not surprised. For weeks, rumors were he would get the axe.
zer0dotcom Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Montreal is a pressure cooker for any signs of weakness. At the slightest sign of trouble they make a rash choice to change it. The team is not in serious trouble right now. They played well at the start of the season, they've just hit a slump. They will still make the playoffs, making a coaching change this late in the year is going to seriously affect their play for the duration.Personally, I believe only team that are completely out of it at this point in the season should be the ones who change coaches. Let them see their players, try out different lines, and get a system in place so next season they can hit the ground running. It is a huge gamble to change coaches at this point in the season and hope that it will lead to success and carry you through each playoff round
DelayedPenalty Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 But they didn't play Toronto first!! Penguins lose to Toronto, Therian gets the axe. Rangers lose to Toronto, Renney gets the axe...
