RUMOR: Golden State Warriors New Identity?

Recommended Posts

Keep the colors and focus more on the "bay area" theme is what I would like to see.

The Warriors are to blue & gold as the Celtics are to green & white or the Lakers are to purple & gold.

Did they use orange in Philadelphia or was it yellow? Maybe the red on that old jersey merged with the yellow in my mind to make me think they used orange?

(Did the color orange even exist back then?)

I hope they go back to the San Francisco Warriors and go back to the "City" logo.

Please, no San Francisco Warriors of Oakland jokes!

I think the Oakland Warriors would be more appropriate.

You are correct since they play in the Oakland Coliseum, however I hope that they take the opportunity to brand them with a world class city.

Oakland may be Major League but San Francisco sounds so much classier, I also think it allows more options for creating a logo (using the Golden Gate Bridge or the Transamerica Pyramid).

The San Francisco identity would encompass the entire San Francisco Bay Area (San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose).

Hopefully the NBA takes the opportunity to have an old franchise go from sounding like a college team to being put in the higher echelon of Major League cities.

Well that's my 2 cents for today - A San Franciscan who lives in Miami

LOL @ SF encompassing the entireity of the Bay Area.

San Jose would take serious umbrage at this.

I believe it was blue and red for most of the time, with yellow added to the trim in the later days.

On the wincraft pennant site, the new warriors pennant was just listed as limited quantities available. It just has the W logo and nothing else on it. They really ditched that primary long ago.

So book it. The change will happen.

I think Oakland would have a bit more of a beef than San Jose, especially considering they play in Oakland. BTW, what's wrong with GS Warriors?

I was just talking about this possible change the other day with somebody(just a fan, not in the know) and we agreed that IF they make a change it will definitely be to Royal and Gold (Yeller)...which is backed up by their website. What I hadn't considered was the addition of Silver. Their website features the color pretty heavily, and I could see them adding it into the mix to "spice up" their old color scheme. Any thoughts? Obviously I'm not saying the website is always a precursor to a new identity, but it makes sense that somebody making the website might have an inside track of knowledge.

Little known fact: orange was invented in 1944 as an unexpected side effect of the Manhattan Project.

Even less known fact: While the German equivalent to the Manhattan Project was (thankfully) less successful, it did lead to the invention of teal. So you could make the argument that Adolf Hitler played a major role in designing the new Jaguars uniforms.

I see an awful lot of navy and orange on that site, personally.

It sounds like a college team.

University of Phoenix Stadium sounds like a college stadium, but everyone that follows a smudgeon of sports knows its not. If you follow basketball, you know that Golden State is not a college team. If you don't follow basketball, then you're probably not worried about it anyway.

Maybe/maybe not. mjmatias said the same thing about the name sounding like a college team, and other people have mentioned the same thing on here before.
