Now they just need to start running them on the front page (even if the score isn't actually news to me at 5:30 in the morning).As for the style, I still love (and prefer) the Hartzell ones. However, Mike Ricigliano's overall style is completely different. So be it -- I can live with it. It appears as though he is leaving a little something behind.I'm pretty sure he is squatting on a base. The two lines running from his bottom toward the front of the base probably depict one of the straps that they used to use to hold the bases down . . . back in the old days.I think those lines descending to the ground are his legs. The lines on either side of his torso on the base are his tail feathers.At a time when print newspapers are literally disappearing, this kind of move that hearkens back to old-school publishing is just beautiful. The Bird flying over the Statue of Liberty, or chugging down a beer, or dragging around a tiger kitten by the tail, all with a great big grin across his beak, tells you everything without a caption.
