Viper
Q: What do you get when you cross the Minnesota Swarm's new regular 2009 home jersey......with their infamous "Hawaiian Night" duds from last season?A: The Swarm's new "official" third jerseys. They've worn special alternates before but they've never had a "permanent" third jersey until this past Saturday night's game against the Edmonton Rush, and here it is:Likes: The numbers are the same font (LiquorStore) as the letters, which I've always preferred over the Swarm's usual, barely intelligible number font. This jersey is also a slightly darker shade of blue than their regular home jerseys (possibly an homage to owner John Arlotta's alma mater of Notre Dame), and gives the team a bit more dangerous look.Dislikes: The sleeve numbers are the same color as the stripes, making them next to impossible to see from a distance. To stand out against the stripes, the numbers should have been white, or better yet gray (which is still officially part of the Swarm color scheme but currently used only on their away jerseys, which are more or less the same as last season's home jerseys). It is interesting and unique.
Viper
A rumor making the rounds on the NLL Insider forums is that these new unis will actually be the Blue Crew's regular home set starting next season. If this is true (which wouldn't surprise me; the team ended up wearing this set for each of the last three home games of the season), it presumably means they're also going to update the away set along the same lines. It would be really odd for a team to give one set of unis two makeovers in one season but leave the other set alone. If anyone cares, here's a page showing almost every uniform design the Swarm have ever had. The only ones not shown here are their pre-2009 away jerseys, which are basically blue versions of the former home/current away whites.
